Hi guys. I'm away on detachment with work for a while soon and I won't have Internet to distract me. So before I go I need a nice stack of games for my laptop that will help pass the time.

Steam or uplay etc should be fine as long as I update them and disable updates before I go. It's rather worrying that I may get locked out of games otherwise.

What would you recommend as good time sinks? I've not really played many games to completion.

I played the South Park game when I was last on dethacment, but I mostly play with my 3DS when I go away. It's easier to pick up and play I find.

Afraid I don't have a ds. I have a vita with a few games. Was thinking of getting persona 4 for that and final fantasy games.

Currently I've got Skyrim , Prison architect, starcraft, outlast and alien isolation lined up amongst others.

If a game need a service to login to start, use tethering ;)

CIVCIVCIVCIVCIV

Civilization (4, with all addons, would be my preferred option).
It's about 40,000 hours worth of joy right there.

Might be worth dowloading/cacheing a few beginner's guides from civfanatics before you go, as there's the opportunity for frustration if you've never CIVed before, but they are amazing and long lasting games.

Single player FPS's would be my choice. Half-Life marathon would take a decent chunk of time.

HL, HL:Blue Shift, HL:OpFor, HL2, HL2:Ep1, HL2:Ep2.
Metro 2033/Last Light
Fallout 3/New Vegas
etc

If you don't fancy an FPS then Kerbal Space Program is an awesome timekiller.

some of these may be of interest to you :

on steam :
supreme comander

Bardbarian

Off Steam/ DRM free some may also be on steam :
total annihilation
Sid Meier's alpha centori

uplink
streethaker
minecraft
Trine 1 & 2

only problem with steam is if it breaks for some reason wise your aware and you dont have internet to fix it.
bit unsure of your laptop spec but i hope all of these will play on it, bit unsure of what your gaming preferences are

really depends on the spec of your laptop and what it can run.

Your best bet would be adventure style games (monkey island, broken sword, sam and max etc or newer equivilants) as they aren't finished quickly.

Uplink is always popular for laptops due to the low specs + fun + time it takes. but that goes for all the introversion games.

Hi guys, thanks for replies.

My laptop is pretty capable. Its a Geforce 870m and Intel 4810q processor with 8gb ram.

I have all of Half Life so I might have to get them installed again, a Marathon sounds decent as Ive not played them in years :).

I have Civ4 in my library yet its unplayed. I never quite had the patience for it. However when I have no internet I seem to give things more attention. I cant just ditch them for Dota 2 or browsing :).

I have Xcom Enemy Within/Unknown which I played briefly. I think that could be good.

Minecraft I own from early release and I guess its been updated over the years. I might reinstall and update. Is there still a survival aspect or is it just all about building fancy things these days?

I own Trine 1 and 2. 1 I completed yet 2 I never bothered with. Again I think ill give that a go :) .

Some good suggestions guys. I think I might have to buy Monkey Island and Broken Sword games because I loved them back in the day.

Is Grim Fandango available still? I always fancied that but never played it.

Xcom is excellent. So unforgiving! Deffo install that. I would suggest the walking dead season 1 (and two if you want, but the first season is the best imo). Such an amazing game for story and characters. I've never cared about characters that much!

I highly recommend Prison Architect. Played a lot of it when I was in the same situation as you, really got my strat nailed down for building massive prisons that worked! It's a fun journey as long as you don't mind failing a bit and experimenting ;)

Well I bought that Banished game and Theme hospital because I couldnt resist :D

Thanks for the input on prison architect too, I can see myself sinking some time into that.
