Going back a bit... LOST

LOST divided lots of people I know - some very polarised opinions about it. I really enjoyed it and liked that there were questions left unanswered (deliberately or not). I'll have a gander at Lostopedia as it's been years since a read any theories about the show. That's another aspect I liked - it left enough open for different interpretations.

It was a beautifully shot programme and had some brilliant characters and actors... Kate used to give me such a tent pole.

I agree... I actually liked some of the ambiguous stuff. On a second watch through there are actually a loads subtle touches that may be missed easily. (Hurley on the TV in Jin/Suns house being an example)

And Kate was stunning and there were one or two shots of her in a bikini that would make most men drool.. BUT She deserved a slap for the twilightesq love triangle with Her, Jack and Sawyer!

I still do not see the hate of the finale - enjoyed it from first minute until the last.
But people do get upset when it's "not the end I wanted".

i thought it was pretty weak - they could have explained 'something' - it wouldn't have been that difficult.
still a good show though.

It's not a hate for the ending - it's a hate for the huge amounts of filler and changes in direction that went on.

The ending could have been dropped in at any point during the 6 seasons and still made sense. But it was blatantly obvious they dragged things out which contributed very little.

Lost got frustrating and things which could have been really good plot areas never got developed properly and were instead replaced with random filler and annoying new characters.

LOSTpedia has everything you could possibly need, and more.

Except the real answers because there are none just reams of theories that people have come up with to try and explain the most random series ever. It started off so well drawing us in with odd discoveries and strange happenings but it ultimately failed to deliver for me as it left far to much hanging and in many cases just walked away from things and never mentioned them again.

Good luck re-watching it I certainly never will!

Well I'm definitely the complete opposite. I've watched it 6 times now since 2010. :o

Does it not just drive you insane every time they walk away from an interesting plot line never to mention it ever again? It was like the writers just cleared the decks and started again periodically!

I've watched the first couple of series multiple times, but despite the fact that there are some truly fantastic episodes in the later series I could never bring myself to watch those again.

Just way too frustrating. So, so much potential missed when you compare them to the quality of the first series. I can't believe that people were able to ignore the random shifts in plot direction, where things with huge potential to be developed further were discarded in favour of some total dross filler instead.

My thoughts exactly. First couple of series I was hooked and couldn't stop watching but then just went potty.

As you say it's like the writers just thought 'stuff this plot line' and completely ditched it. Moving in to something ever more bizarre.

I blame it all on Lindelof's multiple personality disorder (I mean, that guy has undeniable talent of forking just about any idea he gets his hands on into complete nonsensical plothole mess) but in truth it was the writers strike that did it. Partly because the strike action was dragging on for so long some characters had to be written off just because they grew up or had to go to different work, but also because for some strange reason writing style of a lot of scripts on TV simply changed when they returned to work. I'm not sure if during that strike all of them writers were doing long sessions of peyotle or sniffing glue for prolonged periods of time, but after the strike, not a single scribe remembered what they were doing before and not a single TV series was the same ever again.

And Lost was a perfect example of just that. Before the strike the tile was referring to characters, after strike it was running commentary on the state of the plot.

see i don't see how any parts of the series were padded out, if anything i felt it wasn't padded enough as i would loved to have a couple more series with a few more easy episodes to space out the intense ones and expand a bit more on the less important "duller" stories.

jacob brought the losties to the island to find a successor. it took 6 series until the 2 that were needed were ready. all the events of the series needed to happen to prepare them for the tasks they needed to perform as leaders.

Even though I doubt this is what they had in mind when they aired Season 1 of Lost, I don't mind that too much. That is a fine plot. It's the whole "flash sidewards" which was utterly pointless. So much more could have been done with it.

I also agree with what some others have said about certain plots being completely dropped for no reason (the cabin is what most people had a problem with).

In spite of all of that, I still think it was a great show.

it was a good way to (kind of) show what would have happened had the flight not crashed, but also i felt it was a good reason why they were showing us this.

the series obviously had changes throughout, but generally i believe an idea of the ending was made at the beginning. characters changed, new better ideas came about etc and caused a slight change in direction. i was gutted to see charlie go, but i understand that was his decision, the same with eko, but there's nothing they could have done to change that as the actors wanted to leave.

Is it just me that wanted to rewatch lost when they heard about flight MH370 going missing? This thread has given me the final push and i've started watching it again and i'm so glad.

i forgot how great the music is.

Didn't one of the writers admit quite recently that they made it up as they went along? That would explain why it doesn't make huge amounts of sense...

I gave up mid way through season 4 because I realised I found it more frustrating than enjoyable.

they said quite a while ago. They had an ending to every season but it kept getting renewed. The only season that's really interesting I guess is the first. It would be interesting if we could could all parallel universe and see what they would have written if it was cancelled after 1 maybe 2

They writers were great at raising questions and creating suspense, even if they didn't always have an answer.

'The Hatch' was the perhaps the biggest mystery of them all. Everyone was talking about it.

Hey all,

Watching LOST again and trying to rack my brain around it still. And before everyone starts chiming in saying "they were all dead all along", that's rubbish and no they weren't.. haha.

Anyways, I'm reading this, but realise it's really just a detailed fan theory. Just wondering, is there an official "this is what happened" article on the story in LOST?

I wouldn't waste my time with Lost! It's the one TV show I wish I hadn't bothered with. Massive potential but they turned it into a big mess. Anyone can make a show where loads of random stuff happens if they don't have to explain any of it.

Each to their own I guess :)

There are much better TV shows you could be spending the time watching.

I enjoyed the first couple of seasons then it all just got too messy for me and I lost interest (no pun intended).

Lost was one of my fave shows when it was on tv but then it became such a mind ** Swearing is not permitted on the forum, this includes attempts to disguise it ** and then one of the characters said on a chat show that they were basically making it up near the end and so much that happened from earlier season's was never explained etc, so i just cannot ever bring myself to re watch it all for a second time :( its all just too much for my brain to process watching each episode again :p
