Going batty in Batley (or comic strip strikes again).

I think that the pursuit of open debate and critical thinking in the classroom would be a good way to lower peoples' sensitivity and would result in more rational reactions to things people don't like.

Oh, wait... :D

The islamic world want everyone to bow down to their rules. Their way of life. Or else! Its bonkers. They are bonkers.

Who knew that a religion whose name translates into English as 'submission ' , which splits the world into the the area where its religion dominates and 'the house of war' and whose prophet was a genocidal warlord might act in such a fashion?

It addresses the main point of the argument it was intended to rebut - the idea that if someone does something that a violent group responds violently to, that person is responsible for the violence.

Biggest load of rubbish I have ever come across.

So ' she was dressed provocatively and deserved to get raped when there are loads of blokes who have had too much to drink ' same thing, is this okay in your eyes!?

And his father fumed: 'The school has thrown my son under a bus. The lesson that he delivered in which the picture of the Prophet Muhammad was shown was part of the curriculum, it had been approved by the school. Other teachers have done exactly the same thing.

'So why is my son being victimised like this? The school should have come out fighting for him and made it clear to the protestors that if offence was caused, then it was not my son's fault. It was the school's policy to show this picture, it wasn't an individual decision made by him.'

If that is true then it seems like the head teacher has some very sloppy shoulders as per the standard behaviour of (weak) leaders when faced with outrage mobs he's lacked any moral courage himself and has thrown the teacher under the bus.

Alos ridiculous that a mob is still allowed to assemble, obstructing the entrance to the school and attempt to intimidate over this. Police really ought to be moving them on or issuing Covid fines.

That’s an absolute disgrace if true. Even worse if the school is still blockaded, basically blocking education (no surprise there). What a complete shambles. Such a peaceful group.

I never understood my grandfather when he said this country isn’t what it once was and dismissed it as something of his age would say. As I’ve gotten older I understand exactly what he meant having seen it first hand.

Boris Johnson to warn Muslim leaders in West Yorkshire that they risk “becoming like Christchurch” if Muslims do not insist on respect for The West.

Threat? Oh no no no, you misunderstand!

I was thinking this was the case when this story come out. That a teacher would be following the school policy. There was a story the other day from a Muslim neighbour of his saying how he was always respectful to the family and helped them out.

This goes back to the same old problem in todays society, too much bottom flapping. If the school think its appropriate to teach what they did then have the balls to defend it instead of hiding behind educational bureaucracy.

Are you for real?

Are you incredibly dense?

It was clearly worded to be analogous to the tacit threat apparently made on behalf of a group of Muslims that had been posted a few posts beforehand

Muslim leaders in West Yorkshire are to warn Boris Johnson that Britain risks “becoming like France” if the government does not insist on respect for Islam.

Adil Shahzad, imam of the Al-Hikam Institute in Bradford, said that a letter would be sent to the prime minister and to local MPs to show the strength of feeling after a teacher shared a cartoon of the prophet Muhammad. Many Muslim parents want the teacher, at nearby Batley Grammar School, sacked.

So, we're saying the mob outside the school are the violent people here and are the ones threatening violence against the teacher. Your logic says that the teacher is responsible, and therefore at fault, if/when they get attacked. The violent people are excused because someone made them attack the victim? Love a bit of victim blaming. Here's a thought - people shouldn't resort to violence, and if they do then they are very much in the wrong. It is not the victims fault that a bunch of violent thugs attacked them.

I once asked a neighbour to stop leaving their waste all over the street as it blew away and caused a mess. I reminded them where bulk uplift should be. They got very aggressive and threatened to give me a kicking. Under your logic, that's my own fault?

Obviously not, since I very explicitly stated I was rebutting that argument.

You're blaming me for the argument I am arguing against. Do you think that's at all reasonable?

I wouldn't expect to find multiple people on these forums who believed that 'rebut' means 'approve of' and who are so unwilling to bother to read a post before replying that they don't understand the difference between opposing an argument and supporting it.

Here, read a bloody dictionary:

Yes, I picked one for people learning English as a deliberate insult. Am I being obvious enough for you to understand now?

I apologise and yes it did help, thank you very much.
