Going Camping - Any tips?

Hi everyone,

Im off camping in the UK tomorrow evening (should be fun in the rain.)

Ive got my new Snugpak sleeping bag, hat and walking boots :D

Any good tips at all from campers here?

Cheers :)

Jon

autumns the best time of year to camp :) nice crisp mornings, not too much rain, not too much wind. camping in summer is a nightmare as you wake up in a blast furnace each morning to thick stickyness.

only advice i can give you is if your walking take a map + compass, make sure you have spare battery's for the torch or extra gas + gauses for the lamps (i far prefer gas lamps, much more rustic)

basically write out a list of everything you can think that youl need and double check it. have fun :)

Depends on the boot - most modern gortex boots (berghaus, hi-tec etc) will be fine from day one.

Wear good socks though, I spend £60 on a pair of boots and £15 on a pair of socks.

They are berghaus gortex boots, i dont see why you cant use any boot from day one though?!

Or am i missing something!

bend your left arm at the elbow and place your left hand on your waist

bend your right elbow with your lower arm going upward and allow your wrist to go limp

wear a pair of tight trousers and a white vest and swing your backside as you walk

grow a moustache

you won't get much camper than that :p

lol pmsl , fantastic Rotty

I have a pair of Leather Berghaus ridge boots... they are loverly now but it takes time for the leather to mold to the shape of your foot. In fact I am wearing them at the moment, I am due to go walking for 4 or 5 days at the start of December so am getting used to them properly again.

You may be ok with gortex ones... the uppers are a lot softer. Go buy yourself a pack of blister plasters though, I would recommend compeed. They make brilliant second skin plasters. Expensive but worth it.

If the boot isn't an exact fit you either need to build up callouses on your feet where the boot rubs a bit or make the boot fit your feet.

And for the record I didn't think Hi-tec made a proper boot ;op

Not a case of blister pads, its a case of the sock he has on his foot. Something that wicks the moisture off the foot will do the job (not cotton) and then a thermal sock to encase the footsie in some warmth...sorted!

Bring plenty of bog roll, Make sure you wrap it in a water proof bag aswell or you will have soggy bog roll :p

If you forget that you will either have to use leaves, Find a smooth bark tre and keep rubbing like bears do or just walk around and let your cheaks squeltsh together :p
