Going for a Sugo SG01 build :)

Well I found out how to get it to 1600mhz (you need to change the DRAM settings in the BIOS to force it at 1600mhz). However, doing so does increase the CPU speed slightly (talking like 100mhz!) however it has made it run slightly warmer (mid to high 30's idle).

I'm about to run Prime95....

Okay well I ran Prime95 for 1 hour (going to bed now zzz) and it stabilised at around 75 deg which is about the maximum I would be happy with from reading what these CPU's can handle. I was thinking of dropping the voltage back but at those temps I'll leave it. My PC is never running 100% load.

Sorry, I must have been mistaken with the CPU speeds, as it's showing as stock - not sure why I thought it was higher.

However, I have played around with turbo boost on and off. I'm not sure, but tbh I think Turbo Boost is probably a good thing for me as I watch a lot of movies off here and so I think the processors would run at a more power-saving state (and cooler!) when watching films without compromising on performance.

For example, it's running at just over 1600mhz at the moment (as it's at idle) and my temps are 29-30deg.

Do you have turbo boost on or off?

Hi,

Firstly I have no idea if the changes I've made are good or bad...but hear you go.

I went into the BIOS and couldn't for the life of me find where I set the RAM speed (i'm sure I had located it previously) Anyway, I've gone into the Advanced mode and under the Ai Tweaker setting, set my Ai Overclock Tuner too X.M.P (now just going back in I can see setting this to Auto lets me set the Memory Frequency too 1600)

Anyway, here are some screenshots after running Prime95 for over an hour:

The temps I'm confused with as I see different results in the Asus tool, this was after i stopped Prime95.

It looks like my idle temps are a bit warmer than I first anticipated as i was refering to the asus app and not core temp

Our temps are about the same.

IIRC it’s because the Asus tool is just detecting the CPU temp where as CoreTemp is showing the temps of the actual cores. I think that’s correct anyway.

I think Turbo Boost is worthwhile enabling.

I have used SpeedFan but for some reason it doesn’t read the CPU temp correctly – had a bit of a fright using that as it was saying my idle was around 80deg! God knows why.

It’s good to know we are getting the same results on very similar set ups. Peace of mind at least.
