In 3 days I am going in for a little operation

Started in September with vertigo and after 5 weeks of it they sent me for an MRI , I go to get the results on November 28th and the wait for results was running an hour late . I said not to worry I will rebook or get the doc to call me . So off trots the nurse and she said the doctor would rather he saw you and I was bumped up to next in .

I then got the words no one wants to hear "We found something by mistake" but the ENT guy said as it was a mistake to find it , it is nothing to worry about !!

Since then I suffered a mini stroke new years day , But no one would take me serious as my paper work still said routine . I have extreme pain in neck , shoulders , back , arms and legs . Migraines that last 3 weeks and just crap in general .

Since then I have stuggled with them classing me as a routine until I get to the neurology department last month after a pre op and 4th MRI and see the paper work is all marked "URGENT"

I have something called a type 3 chiari malformation , This is a brain hernia from my cerebellum pushing on my cerebral cortex and also stopping spinal fluid moving to and from my brain . I am recommended to under go a 4 hour operation with a week in icu and then 3 month recovery . I am roughly only 1 of 4 people per year that need this operation per year .

Low and behold I had to call them 3 weeks after the pre op and guess what , secretary paperwork said routine So after some hard words , 2 days after my call I now have a date .

Holy moley lad sounds like an experience and a half good luck with it and hope it all goes well.

Just remember the brain swells after an op so things seem a liitke worse before they get better. Good luck.

May the force be with you.

Seriously though, well done for pushing this thing through, how can 1 in 4 cases per year be routine?

All the best mate and be grateful for modern technology, 50 yrs ago they wouldn't have been able to tell what was wrong, let alone do anything about it.

ICU beds are in huge demand and often get taken by last minute cases, so I hope your operation date doesn't get shifted about.

Was due to be done today but was moved to Thursday already

Today is one of my better days where I am not in huge amounts of pain :D
