So I'll be wasting my money if im not even getting a inch bigger vertically?? Cos most games dont support widescreen yet. I would rather have the black bars left and right of the screen so its 4:3 or what ever you said, then make people look 10stone heavier then they are so it fills the screen.
4,3 and 16:8 is tv format...... I thought it was the same for monitors??
4:3 and 16:9, yeah...odd isn't it? (16:8 would be 2:1!)
I'd really advocate the change, the extra width and finer dot pitch will make it seem like big upgrade...reason not to change would be if your hardware wouldn't be able to cope or you're happy enough anyway. Most games do support widescreen btw, and those that don't do it out of the box can usually be forced (see here).
Ok what about going to a 30+ inch and using it as my tv aswell.. I dont have to use the native resolution for games cos my viewsonic is great for non native resolutions with games... what monitior would you guys recommend, are these any good connected to a pc? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_26___LCD_TV_Monitors_575.html
Or I could get a good qualty freeview card and a Dell Ultrasharp 3007WFP 30" Widescreen LCD Monitor
LCD monitors are not great at displaying TV pictures - well, not as great as LCD TV's put it that way. LCD TV's tend to have far better processing when it comes to displaying broadcasting than PC monitors.
Also, the incredibly high resolution of a 30" monitor is not going to help matters when trying to display a TV image, at least not if you want it full screen.
Well, I piped my TV through my Dell 24" once, didn't like it at all - but then there are a lot of people who do this, so it's a matter of personal opinion.
Sticking to your original question, you will notice a big difference going from a 19" to a 24" widescreen for gaming. It's all about how your eye/brain perceive the size of the fov. You get a far more pleasurable experience gaming in widescreen
In this review it says that the picture quality from the "Terratec Cinergy 2400i DT freeview card" was spot on, easily matching the picture we received on our TV, while sound through our two-channel speakers was rich and undistorted.
Hmm. Not trying to tell you what to do here, but I would recommend a 20" TFT and maybe a nice Samsung LCD TV. You will get the best of both worlds, and will equal to about the same price.
Say about 320 for a monitor, and about 500 for a TV... the TV could be wall mounted behind the monitor for ownage
