I am running my operating system on an SSD and my programs and games are running on a normal HDD which occasionally slows down as I have mentioned in previous threads.

I m thinking of getting a 500GB SSD to install programs and some games on it so it speeds up the overall performance.

Has anyone tried this and does it get rid of that little lag you get with a normal HDD?

Thanks

yes and yes
i previously had a 256gb ssd for os + programmes and a 480gb ssd game drive
i now use a 1tb drive for os + programmes + games

as the saying goes, once you go ssd...
lol

you would be bottlenecked by the slower hdd

by how much idk,i cant tell much if any slowdown when loading games off my hdd

i also have a few games on the ssd and again i cant tell any difference but each hdd/pc might be different

if you want to go ssd then do it,it would be quicker than any hdd

op, just fyi, the difference between ssds and hdds for games are the startup/loading times, not the fps

I already know that but thanks much appreciated.

I just want to get rid of the slight lag I get it is annoying when everything is really good puts you off and it's SSD so its the right way to go.

how long is the lag? its not the hdd coming out of sleep/spinning up is it? that can be turned off in advanced power profile settings

I have tried that still no good its about 30 seconds or more sometimes.

The weird thing is that it does not happen all the time only when you least expect it

What HDD are you useing? ? That sounds a bit slow ?? I run an SSD for OS and the games I play ... office and all the tools I have run from my HDD

is it really full? they are usually quick drives

try running atto benchmark on it and post screenshot of results, remember to pick the right drive to test in atto

About 3 quarter full between 2 partitions.

I have a Western Digital in as well but that's just used to data.

idk whether having the partitions would slow it down?

i have the same hdd but an f3 model

you should be seeing roughly 86mb read/write if i remember correctly with hdd three quarter full,on empty drive it would be over 100mb read/write

This is what I got

theres nothing wrong with those figures, idk why your seeing 30 second delay though, could be the hdd

either way an ssd would speed things up no end

I am looking to get a WD Red drive and have just noticed the purple range what are these drives good for?
