Going from textiles to leathers

Since I started a couple of years ago, I've only ever had one set of textiles as my riding gear. However, yesterday I was absolutely drenched in my own sweat when I got home and I wasn't all that happy about it. I think the time has come for some proper leathers. Are they much cooler than textiles? I'm looking at the RST Tractech jacket as it's got perforations at the front..

Not massively cooler imo, and I certainly don't notice a difference between my perforated and un-perforated leathers... nice looking jacket though.

I have the Pro version, but unfortunately cant comment on whether it's cooler than textiles (never had them). The air cooling certainly helps though, once your moving, and you certainly feel it on a cooler day.

You know, I really miss biking already, this weather has made me miss it. However, I do NOT miss climbing out of my 1 peice which has become a second skin after a 2 hour ride involving stop start sections allowing my body to lose 2 stone in sweat alone.

I bought me one of THESE for the reeeally hot days.

My leathers aren't too bad when you're moving at +50mph, but it gets hot pretty quick if you spend anytime slow/stationary.

The bionic vest obviously doesn't offer quite as much protection as leathers would, but I think it's a good compromise when it's baking hot out. I tend to wear it with my Hood jeans :)

Leathers are not particularly cool in hot weather, probably not even as cool as the lighter textiles that have vents. You can get thin kevlar lined jackets from e.g. Draggin Jeans that will be cooler to wear than leather (though won't provide the same level of protection).

That looks like it's worn by someone in a gay club :D

I bought this and it's great for this weather. I went for a spin after work last night, around 2330, and the cool air rushing through the jacket cooled me down a treat (though lugging the bike into my porch when I got home warmed me up again :D).

I've got a spada air mesh pro jacket. It's perfect in the warm weather and even decent in the rain as it comes with a fold away rain jacket in case you get caught out.

It was a Ride best buy, and costs less than £100

I wear leathers, A 2 piece with zip from JTS, back protection armour & a hi vis vest over the top & Yes I wear it all in this weather & any other weather, When it rains I have an RST all in one that goes over the top of the lot & keeps me 100% dry & very warm, I do think the hi vis vest helps keep the glare/heat off my back.
If it does get a bit warm then I just unzip my jacket a bit & the breeze goes in around my chest & out the bottom, Lovely. :p

So I ended up getting an RST Pro Series jacket and some RST Tractech trousers.

A stupid question. When people talk about 360 degree zips do they mean like in this picture? 360 degrees makes it sound like it should start at the navel and go all the way round, ending up back at the navel.

360 degree zip means it goes around all your waist when zipping to the jacket ect
