Going on a cruise alone

Except you can leave a crap hotel and enjoy the scenery. Being stuck on a boat with geriatrics or snivelling children, forced to take small talk at dinner and paying ridiculous prices for a drink was my idea of hell. Only tried it cause the other half is terrified of flying. Never again.

Who did you cruise with out of interest?

Having been on a cruise I wouldnt recommend anyone goes on one. They are so dull I nearly jumped overboard to make it more entertaining

Me and the Mrs watch every Cruise programme going and we've yet to see a Cruise that interests us.
I have done a Nile cruise but that's in another league.

So you went on one cruise which sucked and your advice is to stay away?

Do you also tell people not to buy a certain brand of car because you once saw one broken down?

@SexyGreyFox tell us more about that Nile cruise, that sounds fantastic!

No but I tell people to not buy French cause they notoriously crap car. Same difference. They all follow the same format, group dining, cabouret, expensive drinks and very short times offshore.
Cruises meet the need for certain people but frankly imo if your not 50 going on 90 or on a kiddie boat with your family, they are an expensive waste of money.

It was P&O fjord cruise BTW. Norway was amazing but I'd rather have flown.

Fair enough. I think you may be selling yourself short but it's up to you. I've never been on a cruise so no idea what I'm talking about tbh.

Offshore time is usually 8am till 7pm. On my cruise this year we are in Ibiza from 8am till midnight.

Have you seen a Royal Caribbean ship? They are jammed packed full of things to do and not aimed at over 50s that's for sure... Some over 50s like the sky diving and surfing I suppose.

I'd rather wake up each day at a different place on a ship that blows majority of hotels away, than be stuck in the same hotel and place for a week.

It's not for everyone, but you do have to pick a cruise that is decent.

As for dinning you can request a table for your family.

It is the most amazing thing I've done.
You get on at Luxor obviously do Luxor Temple, Valley Of The Kings and Karnak first.
You get on a boat/small ship that caters for 200 with 50 staff but we were lucky that there were only 14 of us.
You then stop at every major Temple down the Nile stopping at Aswan where you can opt for a 5 hour coach drive to Abu Simbel.

None of which you are forced to do. And the drinks are comparable to a higher end bar on a town night out but far from extortionate. Dock times are more than enough to explore.

Yes there are more older people on board, but there are still a lot of younger people. We're mid 30s fwiw.

We're 3 for 3 good experiences with p&o on 3 different ships so far, 1 week in Norway, 2 in carribean and a weekend to Guernsey for a family birthday.

But horses for courses, they're not for everyone.

my folks went a similarly excellent small scale Nile cruise ... before their problems - not sure I would go now.

are they that expensive though ? I thought they were easily <£100per day all in, so an economic option, maybe less so, post-referendum.

As you say though the group dining/cabarets are anathama to me too, but suit some - give me a group meal in a alps mountain refuge though.

Peugot 306 and laguna, french cars in general, do handle well. ?

You're not wrong, P&O are a decidedly meh line, to the point that we don't even consider them competition :D

12 cruises over the past 6 years and I'm only in my mid 30s, another one booked for August doing the Baltics on a smaller line that is big on destination immersion. I'd never go back to resort holidays.

Owned a lot of French cars then? or just very narrow minded person? I had a MK1 megane for 9 years and had 0 problems with it, i had a clio 182 for 4 years and had 0 problems with it, and now i have a mk3 meg and have had 0 problems with it, another flawed argument you have....

That looks ace, thanks for sharing. It's a shame Egypt is in such a mess at the moment, would love to do something like that.
