Going on holiday on your own?

Was supposed to go travelling with a mate, he tried to get a loan for ages but fudged it all up, i told him i was booking it and he didnt really believe me. I went by myself and it was amazing. Met loads of people who i dont think id have met if i went with him/someone else

Went thailand for 3 months, nothing booked except first night in hostel. 2 months in oz, 1 in newzealand, 2 weeks in fiji and 3 weeks in america. Doing random stuff like meeting people in a taxi ride for 3 minutes then staying in a room with them for 2 weeks is fantastic!

No, I like culture, just not indian culture.
Am I not allowed to dislike things?

In all fairness the op asked us to spec him somewhere good to go on his own to get drunk and chill on the beach, there we go, done.

I'd say your very hasty in not liking it if you've never been. I wasn't overly keen as it being the first stop on my round the world trip, but after spending a month there I loved it.

Ah, this must be the almost mythical voluntary Stockholm Syndrome. I thought it was only theorised but apparantly it exists "in the wild" as well. ;)

Spamalot: although you say you don't like sights in the sense of tourist attractions I'd think the Taj Mahal would be worth going to see if you are anywhere near, even if it is just to say you've seen it. Other than that it sounds as if you would be better off exploring a bit away from the beaten trail so to speak.

I kind of did this a fe wyears ago when I went to Japan. Had a friend living out there and wanted to visit before me moved back here, better hald didn't want to come so I went over on my own.

Met up and stayed with my friend for a few days and spent the rest on my own, was a cracking trip.

Say what now?! :p
Elaborate :p

Unfortunately wasnt a girl. Was in ko phangan for the 3rd time. A guy was travelling alone and jumped into the back of a taxi with me and asked where i was going, i said a good place where i went before and he came. Got there and a double room (2 beds!) was a lot cheaper if we got it instead of 2 singles. He turned out a very sound guy and still keep in contact.

(we both ended up pulling (women) at the full moon party before anyone says anything)

As you soon will learn, when you travel alone, you either make the effort to talk to people or you get bored and fed up. Certainly makes you make the effort.

I remember in australia, i got to magnetic island by myself and the first night walked up to a table of around 20 people eating and plonked myself on the table in the middle of them and said hi. Wouldnt heave dreamed of doing that before. Was either that or sit by myself like a loner all night. A few of them turned out to be nobs and some were sound.

You will probably meet some dick heads but you leave after a few days or whenever you want and wont see them ever again so it doesnt matter.

Luckily im quite easy to get on with and only met a couple of people i didnt really get on with

Nah, it's really not my sort of thing, i worked with a load of indian guys for a short period of time and they just annoyed the crap out of me.

This would scare the bejesus out of me.

I find as I get older I don't really wanna meet new people like I did before.

The thought of going to a hostel and not knowing where I'm going would be terrifying. :D

I like to have my trip planned via google maps first.

I'd like to be carefree with my safety like that but it just won't happen. Moreso now I've got a wife and kid.
