Hey fellas,
I'm looking for decent places to go out in St. Albans, or anywhere nearby there in the Dunstable sort of area. Looking for one or two decent bars and some club suggestions if possible.

Cheers muchly,
Ant

St Albans ....... 5 miles away from me...... you still smoking?
I might hunt you down.

What night of the week are you going to be around?

Myself and the lovely lady in question will be out on Saturday mate. I hear Oceana's good, care to confirm? I am indeed still smoking mate :( Though it's much less and I'm on the rollies now.

I'm actually in Luton at the minute mate, so a pint sounds good :)

Oceanas? Where's that then? Theres a place called Batchwood in St Albans, supposed to be alright but I haven't been there since 1989 lol.
Theres Destiny in Watford - generally full of drunk idiots and low quality females but I haven't been there since 2000.

To be honest I never did go clubbing locally, preferring London, whereas now I am more of a quiet pint and a curry person.

However if you fancy a beer I'm up for that.

batchwoods is alright on a friday night :)

perhaps nozzer can shed some light on this subject, being a local lad.

where are u VIRII? im in welwyn garden, very close to st albans :)

Right, I'll be catching the train there, and getting a taxi back. We want to hit a couple of bars before we go to batchwood, so where's the best place to get a taxi to when we arrive at the station?

Cheers fellas,
Ant

EDIT: Is batchwoods going to be any good on a Saturday, or can you think of anywhere else?

Oh and the pint sounds spot on mate. I'm spending easter at the old dear's house after the weekend, but when I'm back in sunny Luton we should meet up for a few jars.

Nice to see some other people in and around the Bedfordshire area.:)

Dunstable is lacking clubbing wise. Has got a few lovely restaurants if you prefer that. Stopped going to clubs years ago. Me and my girlfriend prefer eating out that going to a local meat market.

Oceana is in Milton Keynes....well out of your way...
Dunstable is seriously lacking since Ikon closed...and a certain DJ left :D
St Albans - been out a few times with work, cant remember the pub names but they are half way down the hill / main street (you can tell I had a few good nights!)
Harpenden has some trendy bars also if thats your thing.

Batchwoods is OK, about 5 min walk from my house. Quite a novelty first time you go there, as it's a big mansion house. Clubbing is not really my thing though. Lots of 6th formers etc.

In town the trendy bars are:

Casa
The Bell
Waterend Barn (Yates's)

Those are all a <2 min walk from each other.

There's also an O'neills and a Wetherspoons, which need no explanation.

You can also visit 'Ye Olde Fighting Cocks' down by the lake, which is the oldest pub in Britain apparently, but not exactly a lively night out. ;)

Batchwood is the only nightclub in St. Albans that I know of.

If you're arriving in St. Albans by train, you can walk into town in about 5-10 mins but just get a taxi to St. Peters Street (the main high Street) if you're lazy ;)

BTW Batchwood is pretty much out the middle of nowhere, there's a bus (might even be free, cant remember) that goes from St. Peters street. Ask a doorman.

I live in Hemel so go out to St Albans sometimes.

Here goes...

Batchwood sucks big time.

Waterend Barn is a great bar that stays open late....

The Bell pub is ok...

Go to Watford - much more choice and I have a better night out there.

Or, just get on the train to London - only 25 mins away ?

Probably somewhere like The Bell that you went to, I prefer something like "The Horn (of plenty)" and a live band.

I hate Watford with a passion, used to live there and used to like it but too old for that stuff now.
I used to drink in Blakes (every night) when it was a proper biker bar full of punks, bikers and general nice people. After a few years it got busted and went down hill quickly, health and safety closed the basement bar down and we got older and moved on.

Watford high street is just asking for a ruck really, I have seen drunk screaming girls hitting people with stiletto heels, fights most weekends and had one mate killed in a ruck and another whose face was kicked into shards, half of his face is paralysed.

I would not suggest Watford for a night out with your lass on your own personally.

I'm going to support this man here, i went to school in st albans and all the 6th formers raved about going to batchwoods every weekend.

I went a few times and found the place to be pretty average clubwise, just be warned there will be quite a few younger people in there and it has its fair share of morons, more so than a lot of other places.

However theres not much else, my one and only trip to visage in hemel resulted in one of my friends getting bottled over the head, so never again.

The most annoying thing about batchwoods is that you have to get a cab there and back, and they'll charge you silly money, its the same for all clubs in herts/beds, thats why i go into london if i fancy a night out, after going there every weekend for 2 years i got so bored of st albans. Casa is ok, the fighting cocks is ok if you want to drink with old men and up there own arses public school boys (i should know i tried my best not to be one of them).

I'd say, go to Casa, O'Neills, and maybe the one up top by the roundabout, i can't remember the name.

Edit* Oh and stay well away from the Peahen.

Oh god! What dark forces drove you in that place? ;)
