I have searched around the forums to check for similar problems but couldnt find any specific thread related to monthly usage mistakes so sorry if its a repost.

Basically i have zen8000 with a 20gb monthly limit. never gone over this before, even when playing guild wars and counterstrike for the best part of 10hours a day everyday and lots of surfing, downloading etc. which is why i find it incredibly strange that this month after my brother started using xbox live it is using on average 5gb per day and he only plays around 3-4 hours:eek:. now i was under the impression that xbox live used a somewhat smaller amount of bandwidth than over 1gb per hour!?
obviously i will be ringing zen after christmas to ask what the hell is going on but as thats a couple of days away just wondered if anyone here knew what could possibly be causing this??as it seems like a terrible mistake to me...

cheers

yes but it is secure and nothing unexpected shows up on attached devices. only started rapidly increasing since xbox live... :S

just playing games, apparently he hasnt had his laptop or xbox on today yet my router was showing 2 attached devices (should just be this 1) about 10mins ago, just changed the encryption password and it hasnt popped up again...
is it possible to trace whatever device was attached?

Not really, did you get the MAC address of the device?
What security are you using on your wireless network? Anything less than WPA/WPA2 and you're wasting your time.

No its not possible, what encryption are you using? Also he could be downloading loads of porn and stuff and not telling you, try dangling out the window / use a truth serum on him.

iv just switched wireless off all together now and swapped hard drives to one i know is clean as the other hard drive would have taken 10years for a virus scan. ill see if this does anything.

was using WPA encryption, didnt get mac address, can only remember like first 4 digits, damn lack of photographic memory.

would it have been possible that torrents were running in the background on my other hdd? as my upload was incredibly large over last few days aswel, checked task manager and there was nothing torrenty in there though....

Spyware/Virus?
Somebody else Torrenting/P2P/Porning and not telling you?
Wireless hacked?

Disable broadcast of SSID and set to Authorised MAC addresses only.

20GB a month? I could do that in a day :(
