I've mostly been a hip-hop RnB kind of listener, but over the last few months, I've found myself listening to a lot of rock music! But its nothing new, for example the last few songs I listened to were:

Warrant - Cherry Pie
Def Leopard - Pour some sugar on me
Boston - More than a feeling
Kiss - God gave you rock and roll

I gave my friend a lift the other day and he was a little gobsmacked!

Do any of you have any recomendations from this genre? I guess its all 80s rock :-| I wasn't even born for most of the 80s!

Thunder - Love walked in
Tesla - The way it is
Van Halen - Hot for teacher
The Hooters - Graveyard waltz
Jefferson Starship - Awakening
Honeymoon Suite - Bad attitude

Don't limit yourself to 80's rock, so much good modern stuff, try Stone Sour "Bother" or "Scars" or "Through the Glass", basically the "Come What(ever) May" album.
Maybe some Metalica or Slipknot or Linkin Park or well so much to choose from, old stuff try Poison or Iron Maiden and AC/DC.

Twisted Sister
Motley Crue
Bon Jovi
Judas Priest (bit more metally but British Steel is a cracking album!)
KISS (Alive album - all awesome :D)

I'll stop now before I go nuts :p

(oh Foreigner, Styx and REO Speedwagon too! :D)

//edit: Sod it! more modern stuff!

Green Day
Limp Bizkit (as above :p)
Airbourne!

If you have sky, tune in to Scuzz or Kerrang... or at least visit their web sites for ideas, too many to list, then start enjoying music with decent lyrics!

I'm listening to Korns Twisted Transistor as I read this thread! The look on my friends face was priceless, he honestly thought I was the radio.

I've been doing a lot more running and jogging, and can honestly say it's so much better to work out to than John Legend and Kanye et al.

W.A.S.P. - especially the first five albums. It's a little heavier than what you're used to but by God it's genius, and the best I've heard the 80s ever deliver in terms of rock and metal. And I listen to a lot of stuff from that period.

Here, I'll make it easier for you.

I even remember the date and where I was when I first heard this song, unforgettable.

Soundgarden
Pearl Jam
Black Stone Cherry
Alter Bridge
Slash solo stuff/Slash & Myles Kennedy
Mastodon - heavy but technically brilliant
Foo Fighters

Might as well recommend Led Zep while I'm here!

welcome to gaining taste in music!

It could be something to do with growing up ;)

Ugh, you bunch of snobs. I got tired of rock music and have moved over to rap lately. Some modern stuff but mostly 80s golden age hip hop. There's good music in all genres, and you're only hurting yourself by limiting yourself to one genre.

OP - I can satisfy both your tastes with rap/rock mashups :D More Than On Point (House of Pain vs Boston) springs readily to mind. Tricky Sandman (Run DMC vs Metallica) is another good one. I'll post some more later.

If you're coming from R&B, you really have no where to go but up. Anything is an improvement over that ridiculous crap.

I'm a fan of all genres. Dismissing a complete genre is very close minded.

Like you wouldn't jig to these R&B gems.

No I wouldn't I can assure you. I'm old enough to know that I hate R&B.

I do however listen to everything from folk, to techno, to D&B, to rock, to hiphop. Close minded I am not.
