going to convert to lynex

virtualbox, its idiot proof.

I m getting a new seagate 500Gb HDD tomorrow along with a new CPU, my idea was to stick it on that (and hope)....and I don't think I ll be able to get the thing on the internet becasue i m using a D link wireless G card >_>

When you get your new HDD, unplug the SATA cable and power cord on your VISTA HDD.

This is the only way to be 100% sure you will not fudge your windows disk :) I still use this method after using linuc for a few years now :p

To access your linux HDD you can simple press F12 (f12 on my mainboard anyway) when the bios starts, this allows u to select which HDD u wanna boot from.

Also in my bios there is an option to select which HDD you wanna have boot first, I set this to my windows drive. When I wanna go into linux I press F12 on the bios screen and select my linux HDD.

Simples.

Using a separate hard disk is the most painless way, go for it, just be beware that the if you are not going to get on line you will be limited in what you can install from a CD due to space and a DVD will take you hours to download and even then keeping up to date is going to be more difficult.

My recommendation is you invest in compatible wireless card. The £15 or so it will cost will be well spent.

I m on linux now...wireless card sprang to life without any problems O_O to my suprise...my vista was on the raid (2 seagate 250Gb) however the computer decided that it couldn't boot from them anymore o.O so I had to take raid off, so I can't boot from vista anymore, and i could'nt get them back ethoir so I had to reset them to non raid disks which formatted them..SO I just set the HDDs back to IDE mode and installed ubuntu one one of them using the whole HDD. I have yet to get around to reinstalling vista thats going on my 500Gb HDD

there are a few flaws however one I have no sound at all, don't think I can get drivers that are nativly for liunx :|
2.wine don't seem to behave itself in other words it only installs things like steam and xfire when it wants to...and they are apps that have got a gold rating or someware around that :P

dude, did you try unplugging your vista drives like I suggested? I don't have any experience of RAID so i'm a little unsure on that.

Instead of jumping in with wine for l33t gayming you should sort your sound card out.

Whats the sound chipset called?

the sound card is more like a intergrated chipset on its own card...its a soundmax...not sure about the model number and I can't get on asus website at the moment >.> again
its the little sound card thing that comes with the ROG rampage formular

yeah my vista was on a raid and i was foced to take them off it, so if I disconnected them it might have casued a problem ethoir way. vista is now on my 500Gb with ubuntu on one of my 250Gb HDDs so no more issues there
