Going to Disney World! - Spec me a fun time.

My girlfriend and I are planning on going to Disneyland in Florida this summer.

Any suggestions for best hotels to stay, places to visit in Disney/Florida etc?

Thanks

Ben

P.s. Please no comments saying 'Don't waste your money on Disneyland, you could go on several holidays for that sort of price' or 'Your too old for that'

Edit: Going around june/july

The Girlfriends mum and three kids are going in may and have booked a hotel about 10 miles from the main site and saved nearly £2k rather than booking a hotel in the complex. There is a shuttle bus from the hotel every 30mins.

think the booked it at Going places on the local high street, and just asked the advisor there to help them make it as cheep as possible.

If I could afford it, and had someone to go with, I'd go now, it's such a great holiday at all the parks :D I don't think I'll ever be too old to go there, with or without kids.

I'd reccomend every Disney Park, though I'd rate Magic Kingdom at the lowest as it's a lot more for kiddies than for the older people.

Non-Disney, you have to go to Universal Studios and Island of Adventure, both have pretty much the best rides and experiences in my opinion.

No idea on Hotels though :)

I always stay in a villa rather than a hotel when I go to Florida, I spend enough time in hotels for work that I don't want to do it on holiday. For a couple it might work out quite expensive, but google for 'Calabay Parc' and see what the prices are like.

I've been to Florida loads of times, and I never fail to thoroughly enjoy myself.

Personally I wouldn't bother going to Epcot. Animal Kingdom and Sea World are fantastic, I think the dolphin enclosure (for want of a better word) should be open again now, it was closed for renovation when I was there last year.

I been to Florida five times now(6th at Xmas, living there next year hopefully) Best place on the planet for having a fun packed Holiday.

If you look at brochures and you get offerd International Drive near Wet n Wild avoid it like the plague. Its scruffy and its a pain in the backside to park around there.

Depends if you want a villa, condo or hotel type thing really. Best places to stop are Kissimme and Davenport.

I would also say Summer is prob the worst time of year to go. We been loads of times in the Summer. Last year we went first two weeks of October. Temps were mid to high 80's most of the day. Maximum time spent queing was 10 mins to get on rides :D Obviously depends if you can go at that time of year though.

MGM, Disney and Epcot offer very little shade in the middle of Summer and it can easily reach 110 degrees C early afternoon. Any shade is taken up very quickly inside as well as out

busch gardens!

Depends on time of year really. Doing it in the peak of Holiday season will be a stretch to see all the parks and some of the other places live Clearwater, St Petersburg et. You can do it but it takes a lot of planning and be prepared for early starts and late finishes.

I would say maybe three weeks if you do it as a summer holiday.

Clearwater is a must, its a great place to visit and its not too far, Hulk Hogan, Tom Cruise live there and Nigel Mansells old house which is worth about $50,000,000s you can get boat tours.

Also JFK space centre is a must but its a trek to get there.

What about the flight there and back. What was it like?

I'm thinking of paying a bit extra and getting economy plus as i'm very tall.

Another must, we went on a Jumbo and paid for the top deck, you just need the extra space.

i have been to florida 16 times now and over the past five times it has been either sheraton vistana villages or the Renaissance Orlando Resort, they are up by seaworld a very nice quite area but not to far away from things. you just drive for bout 2minutes and get onto turkeylake road and you are about 15 min drive from anywere.

Virgin are pretty good. Prob the best med/long haul carrier that is English but you do pay a premium. If you want the extra leg room then TravelCityDirect are quite good unless its flying with Air Atlanta. Staff are rude and their fleet is dated. Travel Cities own fleet is good and its not too expensive to upgrade leg room or 1st class. They usually fly into Sanford rather than Orlando International. Sanford is smaller but nowhere near as busy.

Any flight before 12.00pm is good as you usually land around 5.00pm local time. Just enough time to get to Walmart en-route to your villa for an Ice cold Bud in the pool :D

I love it when people say its only 15 mins away, not in the traffic.

If you have the cash go to Discovery Cove to swim with dolphins, its not cheap but you get a lot of free 14 days passes to Sea World, Busch Gardens.

You get to spend the whole day at DC and you can swim in the Coral Reef with 100s of fish and they have sunken ship with a shark inside the ship in its own tank.

Swim & Sea World 14 day £176

We went with Travel City Direct, I was great to fly with them, we had loads of leg room and we had our own hostess between about 25 people.

Euro 2004 was on and it was a nigthmare to find a bar with it on and they charged $30 to get in, we found one right near our villa and it was about $20 to get in.
