It looks as though me and a couple of mates are going to Dublin in late July for a bit of a lads weekend. Just got a few general questions that i'd appreciate some answers to!

Is there much to do during the day? I think we're going to go to the Guinness Storehouse, but apart from that I don't really know many other places to go. We're only staying 2 nights so i'm not looking for much.

Where's the best place to go in the evenings? My mum said something about a place called Temple Bar? Is that just an area of the city?

Can anyone recommend any hotels? We're looking mainly at Travel Lodge or Days Inn type places really.

Thanks in advance!

Went there in April for a Stag Do. Temple bar is a area and a bar, however the bar itself is very small, i didnt think that much of it. There are loads of bars, but can be iffy letting groups of lads in. We found one bar called Fitzsimons, which let us in all weekend, was a bar during the day serving lovely food, then turned into a club downstairs at night.

Hotels cant help on, we stayed at the Isiac Hostel.

Hope that helps

J

Drink Guinness?

Also, if you're going in late July you might be able to do what we did and stay in the dorms at the university.
Twins rooms that were fairly nicely furnished for around £25pppn

Can't remember the name of the place we stayed, it was about a 10 minute bus ride to the centre with a stop literally right outside. During the day make sure you you the Guiness factory tour, it's totally amazing! And you get free Guiness at the end...that single event now causes me to drink guiness all the time!(We got in 1/2 price and skipped the que cos my gfs bro works for Diagio [they own Guiness :D ])

Temple Bar is an area and is just across the river south of the city centre, definetly worth visiting every night :)
Its also a bar, as stated above, and it's not THAT small. It's red and on a corner, you can't miss it. Make sure you order guiness in there ;)

How many are going? Apartments are good value if there are 6 going. Search Christchurch apartments. 2 mins from temple bar. Look on laterooms.com.

Temple Bar is the 'cool' place in the city...very pricey but there are plenty of bars.
If you're a fan of Guinness, I'd recommend visiting the Porterhouse Inn. They brew their own stout's and they have an amazing Oyster Stout....mmmmmmm
Far superior to Guinness! :)
They also do good food and the barmaids are rather nice too!

I live in Dublin city centre and love the Dublin nightlife.

Don't spend all your nights in Templebar, it's a complete rip-off tourist trap. Very few Irish people go out in templebar.

Bars to visit:
Kehoes of South Anne St. (off grafton st.) - Great guiness, super athmosphere.

Dandalion on St. Stephens Green - Full of gorgeous ladies.

The Barge pub on the canal road - Great for a dance into the early hours, plenty of local ladies.

Most important:
Gaiety Theather on Saturday night - several floors, several bands, several dancefloors, beautiful people and relaxed athmosphere. Best club in Dublin!

Accomodation:
Try The Harcourt Hotel, Harcourt street. 2 minute walk from Grafton St. and has a great bar and nightclub in it. http://www.harcourthotel.ie/

If you need anymore info give me a shout

We thought it was absolutely awful. Tatty decor, the only place we found which had ugly people inside and hugely expensive drinks (€15 for a double vodka & Redbull!) and entry (also €15). Perhaps we were unlucky.

Café en Seine is fantastic, five mins walk from Gaiety Theatre if you want a more 'local' drinking experience. I don't mean it's a proper back street boozer though, just with an Irish clientele. Very austere place but not full of lairy lads. No more expensive than the Temple Bar pubs either.

In Temple Bar, the bar at the Morgan hotel is great to escape the stag/hen-do madness. Boomerang, a small club down a side street, was quite good fun too, but a bit scummy inside. Avoid Lapello's lapdancing emporium, expensive and not a good atmosphere.

I went to Dublin for a stag doo, we went self catering I forget who with but was near the Spar near a tram station there, opposite the river.

Very cheap hol :)

The Porterhouse is great.

Most places in Temple Bar are the same - none of them are that good really (except for the Foggy Dew! :D My local drinking hole...).

If you want to do something during the day, the Guiness Storehouse is usually a must. You can always visit the Phoenix Park or go to the Powerscourt Gardens in the Wicklow mountains (it's beautiful down there), it's probably an hour away by bus.

There's loads of museums and stuff, but I doubt that's going to be high on the lad's weekend agenda... :p

There is no way you could call this place tatty. It's one of the best theatre's in Ireland and is decorated tastefully. You really must have got a really unlucky night.

Also, you find me a nightclub in dublin with a double vodka and redbull less than 13 euros and I'll buy you one. You'd be paying close to 18 yoyo's for the same in Templebar.

Nice spot but quite pretentious crowd.

We must have done, the carpets were loose on the stairs, it smelt... less than savoury in the corridors and there was some awful club singer type belting out Robbie Williams hits to the baying crowd of thirty-something spinsters in one of the rooms.

A stark contrast from Cafe en Seine where we'd been previously.

Looks like we'll have to agree to disagree on this one :D
