Well I dont think it ultimately matters if you are good or bad. I completed it being good, and then started again and was bad. Different storyline thats all.

being bad you get to set off a huge nuke, which is fun :D

There is just something very... enjoyable... about standing on Tenpenny Tower and watching Megaton blow to pieces. but yeah... it makes sod all difference. About the only real difference i can remember is you can use your bad rep to get into the Slavers base immediately (and get Regulators not Talon Company).

I think bad is the most rewarding. Mostly because you can charm/flirt with Mr Burke for extra cash, after looting most of Megaton (including the armoury). Just make sure you get the Strength Bobble from Simms' house.

As for getting lots of cash... well you're best bet is really the Family quest. They have a ton of gear/scrap metal in the area to steal and sell.

I think you should play through as evil as there's some really annoying characters in it that deserve shooting!

I finished this last night as practically a saint on the Xbox. Now gonna restart it as a baddy on the PC as I got the GOTY addition for Xmas.

One my mates reckons there's loads of good mods out there, any specific mods I should look out for?

You know i never actually tried modding Fallout 3, never really felt there was any reason to... though i suspect there are some mods that increase the number of enemies in the wasteland that might be a good choice.

Did you have the DLC on the Xbox? If not, i'd avoid Point Lookout until you're higher level (or have Chinese Stealth Armour from the Anchorage simulation). Unfortunately the idiots at Bethesda decided the ultimate way to make PL more challenging was to give every new enemy +damage that ignores your armour. Its great fun seeing new crappy enemies with a Knife deal more damage than Super Mutant Masters with Supersledges.

I always mean to start out bad but end up being good! I guess I'm naturally the hero type...
As for mods, In one of my games I decided I may as well be good then, just before the last mission, I would enslave everone, and I do mean everyone, especially those buggers at megaton. But it won't let me - the zapper thingy just kills them and I have to kill everyone instead :(

The way those mofos spoke to me, I had to waste them all. I wasted every one in Megaton before setting off the nuke. That was amazing!

In actual fact, I think I wasted everyone I possibly could from Caravan ***** traders to those fools in Daves place or w/e it was cool

You should go bad. I'm on my second replay now and doing an all-good run. You can get different followers recruited depending on your karma. Best ones seem to be bad! Not sure how much it actually matters though.

I'm currently on the lookout for a printed strategy guide for this game. If you have one, post in my wanted thread.

Not even close, Fawkes is Good Karma and he's easily the best follower (albeit very late in the main quest). Who can say no to an almost indestructable follower wielding a Gatling Laser?

I'd say this further highlights my need for the strategy guide then!

Meh, the problem with these games (ie Fallout, Oblivion, Morrowind) is that theres always a most ideal starting strategy. Its just a question of finding it.

For me, Morrowind = Go to... Suran? and steal everything from 1 of the traders because he has some valuable items, then flog it to the Creeper to start with a decent amount of cash.
Oblivion = Doing those frigging 'Arcane University' Access quests which really do get on my nerves.
Fallout 3 = Setting Intelligence to 9 and swimming pretty much the entire way to Rivet City immediately for the +1 Intel Bobble.

As for after that... its nothing you shouldn't be able to decide for yourself after playing the game (i mean whats the point in having a strategy guide for your first few playthroughs?). I mean it depends entirely on the type of character you're playing.

If you're doing Stealth, you probably want to go Operation Anchorage early on and get the Chinese Stealth Armour (though tbh it defeats all strategy from the game, Bethesda suck at balancing invisibility and practically NOTHING can see you when you wear it).
If you're doing melee you obviously want to go for the Family quest asap and grab your free Shishkebab schematic.
If you're doing Big Guns you'll be wanting to max Barter/Repair asap, gain access to as many merchants as you can and maybe invest in a couple of Stealth Boys to get hold of Vengeance from the Deathclaw Sanctuary.
If you're playing a Sharpshooter, you'll be wanting to go directly to The Mall and Underworld to get your Lincolns Repeater from the Musem and probably the Reservists Rifle from the Drifter at the Church (never actually found the Victory Rifle :p), or the Backwater Rifle from the Spy quest in Point Lookout or the Gauss Rifle from Anchorage (neither isr eally an option over the Lincolns... though the Backwater is epic since it doesn't use Magnum rounds ><).

Anyone tried going down the ninja/hand-to-hand route?

i tried it. Its bloody hard then i ended up useing weapons as soon as the super mutants came. But by then i had died to many times to be bothered to not use guns.

I think im gunna be a good character to start off with but i wannas ee that nuke again :D so ill be a god then ill blow megaton up for the crack.

In the end it doesn't matter, you can change your Karma so easily anyway. Can't remember how to go from Good--->Bad other than going on a killing/stealing spree, but all you'd have to do is drown a Bum outside 1 of the main towns in Purified Water until you're back to Neutral/Good.

Super Mutants? They aren't the problem at all. You just need to play stealthy to get in close (though Super Mutant... forgot there names, the new guys in Broken Steel who appear with Tri-Beam Lasers that can 1-hit kill you, might be a problem). The real problem are Deathclaws, going pure, 100%, melee is suicide in the GotY edition. You need a Dart Gun, or at least to cross with Explosives.

On a side note, going toe to toe with Super Mutant Behemoths is hilarious, especially when you block there Fire Hydrant club with a Shishkebab and take next to no damage :D

How about just playing "neutrally", i.e. neither good nor bad. That's what I did, I just assessed every situation on merit. I played KOTOR pretty much the same way too.

As mentioned Fawkes is very good, he never seems to die and you can use him as a mule too.

when he asks you to save his mum from the rad roaches, go inside and beat her to death in front of him before killing him.

Then eat the roaches.
