Going to university soon and building a computer. Please check my spec

Will the 460 be able to play games in DX11 at 1920x1080? And how common will DX11 games be? I don't want to spend a load extra on a 460 if I end up having to put it in DX9 or DX10 and getting 2 or 3 FPS more than if I got a £50 cheaper graphics card.

Also Burty, why is the BenQ better than the other cheaper monitors? (other than the contrast)

I think the overall impression of DX11 is that you'll only notice the difference if you're super keen and look for the differences, I don't think they're that obvious as yet. The 1GB 460 is better in most areas; http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/180?vs=175 It just depends whether that looks worth the price.

Couple of things ive noticed.

Firstly if you go with the 555 there is a chance the mobo can unlock "hidden" cores. So you may infact get an X4 BUT! an aftermarket heatsink would be advised as the stock one is tiny and only meant for 2 cores. Problem is when you add £15/20 for the heatsink you are nearing the 955 price point so that may be a better cpu choice.

Secondly the "new" ati cards are due this quarter (october is rumoured). I'm almost certain that mobo has onboard graphics (IGP), you could hold off on the gfx card and wait and see what happens to pricing. I seem to recall the 460 is roughly on par with the 5850, maybe these will drop in price considerably or maybe a 6000 card would be more suited.

Lets be honest the gfx card is an easy upgrade i can understand you wanting the rest of the build done in time for uni. Just a thought...good luck with the build

*edit* i forgot to mention many people choose the 955 up the multiplier by 1. This in effect makes it a 965 but you save £20!

Hi again.

I chose the samsung F3 as its quick, but go with the HD you chose as its just as good but cheap as its on 'THIS WEEK'

650W is ott if you dont plan to buy another card later.

4890 runs hotter and is power hungry = more money to spend on cooling + more PSU.

I think the 460 is good bang for buck, and the geil ram is much better than OCZ RAM
But thts bumping your budget up, then you hav to cut corners else where or increase your budget.

I know you dont want to overclock but the Black edition AMD chips are so so easy to overclock. Just to overclock to 3.4-3.6 would be easy and good. It also would perform better in games more than the athlon x4 @2.9

I know the cooler comes with thermal paste already on but its crap. And the MX3 would last for many more builds

I think that I am going to go for the OcUK value 460 1GB. I will probably not upgrade the computer with another graphics card as I will be skint at Uni and will probably just turn graphics down on newer games :p I am not going to overclock the CPU so I hopefully won't need another CPU cooler... The cheapest is £24 which is enough to buy a nice new game :p

Skint at uni? You say that now but with a massive overdraft and a student loan you will think differently later in the year.

I brought a 5850 with my student loan, and kitted my case out with some fans with the overdraft. But then i lived off bread, water and lager until the next loan -.-

I think the OP is Waaay of target here.

buy a cheap laptop, and save the rest of your money for the alcohol you'll be consuming in vast swathes shortly.

You wont be caring too much about your PC spec when you have girls playing strip twister in your place. :)

U can afford to do both.
I lived off 3litres of strong dry cider for predrinks (15.9 units) then i only need a couple of pints/shots then im gone.
