Going to York

Nice! Been there several times, going back in June actually.

I would recommend the Castle Museum, the Yorkshire Museum, York Minster, the National Railway Museam, Yorks Sweet Story, a visit to the shops in the Shambles, a walk along the roman walls. There's also the tour bus that goes around the city and the tour boats on the river, but I'd only recommend those if the weather is good.

If your looking for a good drink there's a couple of good cocktail bars to look out for, Bora Bora and Evil Eye. Plenty of good places for eating too, depending on what your into. The Blue Bicycle, Rustique and The Olive Tree are all good. Harkers is a decent pub, which also does food. Red Chilli is a good Chinese. Gourmet Burger Kitchen does a very good selection of burgers. Betty's Tea Room is a bit on the expensive side, but I think its worth it for the experience along. Their traditional Afternoon Tea is quite filling.

Bettys tea room, visit the small one on Stonegate as the one closer to the bridge/center is packed with tourists (Unless you want to sit down and not take away). Make sure to get yourself a Fat Rascal :D

Also have a look around the Shambles as their are some very nice restaurants/cafes with some "filling options", also their are the usual chain restaurants dotted around if you're struggling to find somewhere (The York Byrons on High Ousegate is a cut above the others IMO)

As Craig said the Sweet story is nice and the chocolates aren't bad quality either. Their is also a Fudge shop on igh Low Petergate and a nice ice cream shop on Goodramgate and another ice cream parlour/chocolatier (Monk) in the Shambles :D

Other than that, explore as their are some great sights and eateries :)

Love going to York

I'm from York and Red Chilli isn't a great place anymore:(

There are plenty of threads on York already in GD. If you want to know anything specific then ask away :)

Really? Is was nice when I went, but that was a couple of years ago :(

Are there any decent Chinese or Mexican places there now?

Maxis which is out of town good for Dim Sum https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Resta..._Restaurant-York_North_Yorkshire_England.html

Happy Valley https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Resta...appy_valley-York_North_Yorkshire_England.html

Yak Yeti not strictly a Chinese but still very good https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Resta..._Restaurant-York_North_Yorkshire_England.html

Regency isn't bad either https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Resta..._Restaurant-York_North_Yorkshire_England.html

Not sure why Red Chilli has gone down hill but it has. We used to go maybe once a month and throughly enjoy it but not anymore:(
