I'm going travelling for 3 months to Thailand>newzealand>Canada, and most places suggest taking sandals pretty robust ones. I'm not overly keen on sandals but need something that will be very airy, and breathable due to the humidity. ive been thinking about something like this Link

Anyone got any comments, or there experiences...will be doing quite a lot of walking....

they look the ticket
but when we went we bought some shoes out miles cheaper and if you don't like them get another pair only about £4 quid a pair Thailand
not worth worry about mate

I would suggest these, they do a slightly cheaper pair for £65 and a goretex pair for £85 too.

I have been wearing these for the last 3 years (one pair a year) and they are easily the most comfy and durable trainers I have had. I also race in them. They have stood up to everything I have put them through. :)

im looking for a pair of hiking shoes to do a hike around the lake district later this year anyone got any suggestions ?

With shoes it really depends on your feet! Different brands have different ratios of length to width etc so it really does depend on what works for you. Basically you have to try a few pairs on and have a good walk around to see what you think. Also don't be afraid of spending a bit of money, shoes which aren't comfy will make the holiday much more painfull, its worth the expense. Also remember good socks to go with the shoes!

If you're doing some serious walking on rough terrain make sure you get a good pair of boots that cover your ankles, and get them here before you go because sometimes its hard to find good quality boots abroad. If however you're not doing much walking off the beaten track just stick to normal/rugged shoes that you can pick up anywhere. Just buy them as you need if you're in somwhere cheap!

IMO Sandles are for lounging on the beach, not for walking in. So unless you're used to walking a lot in them i'd avoid this option because they'll most likely cut your feet to shreads. If you must use them don't rely on them as you main footware, just for when you want a break from you sweaty shoes and you're just walking short distances etc.

I'm travelling towards the end of the year SE Asia, Aus and Oz and after advice from a friend who went my main shoes will be: These Sandels Walked about 20 miles in them at festivals/around where I live and they are brilliant, my main concern in feet getting cold and socks are not an option with them!

Taking along a pair of more suitable walking shoes as well but expecting to be using the sandals for the bulk of my time but then I'll be in hotter places for most of the trip than the OP.
