I'm a student living with 4 girls and today they clued me up on what is known as 'gold rushing.'

We're all final year students, graduating this summer and unbeknownst to me, a great deal of the final year single students go on a mad rush to look for eligible bachelors (studying for bachelors, geddit?) to make their man. Apparently, nobody wants to graduate alone...

I was somewhat bemused by this. Frankly speaking, when/if I graduate I wouldn't want my grad photos to be taken with some random bint I hooked up with just to feather my own ego and not become foreveralone.jpg. I find this phenomenon astounding, but maybe my circumstances fail to allow me to grasp this concept. After all, I came to uni single, worked myself ragged, have had a flipping marvellous time and grown so much as a person. To me, graduation is a celebration of my coming into the world, leaving Ma and Pa Theophany to get started in the wide old world. Also, I don't much fancy the idea of tying myself to a girl I'll likely move a long way from and go through the awkwardness of pretending long distance nonsense can work! :p

Is this actually a thing OcUK? I know women are difficult to fathom at the best of times, but is this crap actually for real? Seems utterly daft to me!

EDIT: that marriage troll last week looks a little different in hindsight now I know about this concept!!

Uhhh well tbh you don't need to have them in every photo. My girlfriend who I was with for pretty much the whole of my third year, and I'm still with now, is in certain photo's but then I also have some with just family as well.

So why not find a hot girl to be in your photo's with you? Guaranteed to get laid on graduation night as well that way too!

sounds retarded, is it some "omg i might be the only single person, must follow like a sheep" mentality..

i live near the newcastle uni and in the city centre park theres always uni students hanging about, even the fat ugly blokes have decent looking women with them :S

I know of girls who have basically come to uni just to find a guy. Probably lads out there that have done the sane. I think people seem to have it in their heads that once they graduate their social life is going to go down the pan and you'll basically only have the talent you work with, which is probably limited to a few 10s of people in most cases, where as in uni its a few thousand. So people get desperate look for the easy option and just try and make a go of it. The safe comfortable one. It is very strange.

Well I'm graduating this year and have yet to hear of anything like this. Although It's probably not that uncommon, remember secondary school proms where there is always a mad rush to find a partner, similar concept. I assume there is some sort of summer ball at your uni where girls will be looking for partners.

Or your housemates might be hinting at something. Any of them taken a recent shine to you lately? Or you could just be getting played at the game you so masterfully play, trolling.

Hahaha!! I don't think I'm being trolled, I've spoken to a couple of other people about this and I guess to some people it makes sense - just not me! I do alright for myself with the ladies, I'm no Charlie Sheen but I get by, so the thought of putting up with another woman's crap on a daily basis has no appeal to me! :p
