I'm a student living with 4 girls and today they clued me up on what is known as 'gold rushing.'
We're all final year students, graduating this summer and unbeknownst to me, a great deal of the final year single students go on a mad rush to look for eligible bachelors (studying for bachelors, geddit?) to make their man. Apparently, nobody wants to graduate alone...
I was somewhat bemused by this. Frankly speaking, when/if I graduate I wouldn't want my grad photos to be taken with some random bint I hooked up with just to feather my own ego and not become foreveralone.jpg. I find this phenomenon astounding, but maybe my circumstances fail to allow me to grasp this concept. After all, I came to uni single, worked myself ragged, have had a flipping marvellous time and grown so much as a person. To me, graduation is a celebration of my coming into the world, leaving Ma and Pa Theophany to get started in the wide old world. Also, I don't much fancy the idea of tying myself to a girl I'll likely move a long way from and go through the awkwardness of pretending long distance nonsense can work!
Is this actually a thing OcUK? I know women are difficult to fathom at the best of times, but is this crap actually for real? Seems utterly daft to me!
EDIT: that marriage troll last week looks a little different in hindsight now I know about this concept!!
