Hi I just ordered a new golf 1.4 mk5 gonna be first car :s I dont get it till 1st sept with new reg. the stereo is double size normal headunits. Any1 know if its changable? looked at 1 in showroom doesnt look like it can be changed.

No idea about the stereo, but isn't that an AWFUL lot of money to spend on a 1st car

I was driving my bros clio for 6months hes working abroad but the engine messed up had to get a new 1 and repair it and bro sed sell it. so selling it for £2000 and got new car.

I guess as its apparently your car though you will be the main driver? I thought that invalidates the insurance?

Also get a banger and build up no claims from the start, i was under my mums name, correctly mind because i wasn't bothered about driving. Now i need to drive more and need my own insurance i'm annoyed because i get high quotes due to having no NCB.

//Edit: I honestly didn't try to lead you into that trap, honest! :D :p

True, but you can get no claims without being the main driver these days. And even if you are not the main driver, you still get given a discount for insurance if you have been driving for x years as a named driver then get your own insurance policy.

If its anything like the new passat i've had on hire for the past week then yes.

AFAIK the only company who give named drivers NCB is Direct Line, and even then the NCB can only be used on a Direct Line policy.

You get a discount for having held your license for x years, yes. But you get none for being a named driver.

Why does everyone say this, there are insurance companies here that let you do this and you can also be the main driver. Dont always say its the same for all until you get the facts right.

Ok, but he still won't be accruing NCB, unless he was with Direct Line, which i can't be bothered checking again, but i'm pretty sure they don't allow that.

you could have a look at getting one of these , I would check to see if it's compatible with your 1.4 Mk5.

Then you could put in a nice aftermarket headunit of your choice.

I live in a high crime, i am 22 with no no claims because i have been on my mum's insurance for years and i also have an sp30 just to spice things up. Finally got my own insurance this year on a 1.8 Self-shifting Cav, a group 8, for £712 fully comp, which i was happy with as at 18 insuring a 1.1 Rover 200, a group 3, cost me over £1100 a year with my mum as the policy holder!

So its not all bad
