Since the TDI has an intercooler i'd say yes. I'm also pretty sure but not certain it's located the same place as the 1.8T behind the bottom driver side grill.

If you have to get a golf... get a 1.8T, without the wheels and lights etc. Then you can add tasteful parts yourself and you have a higher chance that a chav didn't thrash it as the previous owner.
Mine looked ruff at the garage, but it only had 1 owner who used it as a 3rd car -shopping trolleywith low mileage and all stock parts. I then took to work and made it a shiney example of a well looked after car

I can blatantly tell now that it's been ragged around by a chav so I'm not going for it. I'm going to look at more Golfs, though.
18", 225 wide. My car was always going to be slow and I am not a particularly fast driver so I didn't care about loosing speed. I have lost about 4mpg, and about 5% acceleration approx. It also tramlines quite a lot.... but they set the car off nicely and give lots of grip with more tire on road surface.
Well... I guess I could pimp my car for the benefit of the OP
I could really do with lowering it at the back... but it doesn't look too bad when I sit in it, more level. The ride is much firmer and pot holes are a killer, but the difference isn't huge tbh.

How can you tell that? Just because it's got some alloys and tinted rear lights?
My Elise has got an air filter and exhaust? Am I a chav?
My MR2 had air filter, exhaust, 18's, increased boost, SSVQ BOV, exhaust, Cobra Sidewinder seats, coilovers, 325mm 4 pots etc. From that info could I must've thrashed it everywhere with no mercy.
I feel the same way as OP, and to be honest I can't tell... but it is more than likely that a car was distasteful rear lexus lights and air filter is more likely to have had a good thrashing, than say a woman owned shopping trolley with stock parts or even a high mileage BMW with stock parts. for instance, I would consider a High mileage car with few owners over a car with low miles and several owners.
I wouldn't say you were a Chav, in fact my next car (with a decent engine) will have air filter and exhaust. An Elise/MR2 is an ideal car to "rag" and fits the image of a nice noise to follow... a Golf doesn't have the same appeal, nor built for that purpose. I am sure that your cars were tastefully modified, rather than a golf with lexus lights and a big 'zaust.
