New Italian TV series starting on Sky Atlantic 4th August... looks promising!

"Based on Robert Saviano's bestselling book, this gritty Italian crime drama paints a portrait of the brutal Neapolitan crime organisation the Camorra, as seen through the eyes of Ciro Di Marzo, the obedient and self-confident right-hand man of the clan's godfather, Pietro Savastano.
The series begins as Ciro and his friend Attilio set fire to the home of ruthless rival Salvatore Conte as they attempt to stop him from encroaching on Savastano's turf. When Conte escapes, however, he makes a vicious retaliation against the Savastanos, meaning all-out war for Pietro.
As the death toll mounts, Ciro suffers a tragedy during the bloody battle. Pietro may be satisfied when he gains upper hand, but Ciro yearns for revenge against Conte."

Apologies if there is already a thread about this ;)

This should be good. It will be a 12 part season and is based on the book by Roberto Saviano which came out in 2006. There is also an excellent film which came out in 2008 and consists of five linked stories. If you want to know about the Neapolitan mafia then this book is a must read.

Ooh, this could be good. Read the book about a year ago. An Italian girl I worked with ruined the whole thing by telling me it was illicity produced by the mafia and that a lot of the guff about the writer being wanted is self-created (ie, he is/was in hiding, but no-one's actually looking, if you get my meaning). Regardless, it's a cracking book and there's no doubt what happens in it is largely representative of what does occur in Naples and beyond.

Hope the show follows the grittier European aspect of the book/film and not the stereotypical guido Hollywood bent!

Here's hoping ;)

Finally got to the end of this and enjoyed every minute. Easy to watch as it's not overloaded with subtitles and one soon gets drawn into the gloomy settings and violence. It's beautifully filmed and well acted, portraying a very nasty and seedy underworld. I'll be back for the second series. Anyone else watched the whole series?

I watched all 12 episodes of this over Saturday and Sunday.absolutely brilliant series was a bit quiet in the middle but the last 5 episodes I just had to watch and watch. Very gritty and violent and easy to follow even with the subs. Naples looks like such a dump though!

Cannot wait for the second series now!

I've got Season 1 sitting there on my nas, never got around to watching it. After reading this thread, I just might!

Finally watched to first two episodes and it's even better than the first series. The Genny episode is one of the best so far. I'm more addicted than before.

A great start so far to the series! Cannot wait to see how it develops! Going to be bloody that is for sure.

Great series .. but for second season sky seems to have messed up Italian sub-titles, which are mostly white on typically white background so very difficult to follow ... does anyone have a solution for this ... I do not think Siri can help ? ( somewhat unrelated but I think the new Apple adverts with Sesame street character are good)

Does anyone have a link to a catch-up episode guide for this ?
I am trying to figure out some of the plot in series 2 and wiki (when did it get revamped) has not been helpful
