Gone but not forgotten.

The question is how was someone like Thomas Hamilton allowed to keep such items.

Without wishing to go too far off topic, it was the Police's fault. He was found to be unstable, but the signs were ignored and he was allowed to keep his license.

But instead handguns were banned, and now we live in an England free of gun crime!

I would rather have a total ban on guns then just give people licences, I mean whats the odds on getting shot by a gang member or getting blown away when you **** someone off, you just have to look at how much it happens in the USA, schools, workplaces, random places.

Let's get the simple bit out of the way first: the handgun ban was not, repeat NOT, intended to decrease overall gun crime. It was intended only to prevent another spree shooting. And since there hasn't been another spree shooting in England or Wales I'd have to guess it worked.

Now the more vexed point. The problem was that while there were various accusations leveled at Hamilton, none had been proved. None-the-less, a police officer had recommended the revocation of his FAC. But a senior officer, with one eye on Hamilton's a) friends in the local council, and b) tendancy to sue people who upset him, decided not to agree and let Hamilton keep the FAC. The fault was not that of the police in general, but one officer in particular.

There is already effectively a total ban, yet people continue to die. Somethings not working is it ?

RIP children.

I remember getting a Mothers' day card just after and have never felt so guilty in all my life for all those mums that didn't get one.

RIP angels

I didn't know that. I remember reading that he was from Dunblane, but didn't know he was at the school at the time.

RIP indeed.

yep, he was in P3

Murray, however, says he was shielded from the aftermath of the tragedy and, still being a child, wasn't truly aware of what was going on. (wiki)

Remember it well. My father had just died having had a great life and all I could think about was how guilty I was at grieving for him when all those Mums and Dads weren't going to see their children again. I still seeth when I think of how Hamilton was allowed to have those gun licences.

I think he was in a gun club, apparently he begged the authorities to revoke his licence and they did nothing.

Doesn't seem that long ago at all, such a tragedy.

It doesn't seem that long ago at all.
It upset then.
It upsets me now.
It also really hits home, as my own daughters are 3 & 5yrs old now, can't imagine what it would be like to lose either of them.

My thoughts are with the families & the souls of their children.

The deaths of children are the saddest of human experiences: we not only lose the innocence, the laughter, the touch of angels, we lose all they might have been. Who knows what tremendous contributions to the world these shining souls would have made, but for the selfish act of a sick man! And the thought of a teacher, pledged to lead and protect these little ones, being helpless against this onslaught of terror, and murdered as well...I can only pray nothing like this ever happens again.

RIP :(
