good 120mm case fan

do you really need loud 120mm case fans anyway? i know my pc doesnt.
My thoughts exactly.. hence why I'm trying to work out if he's got a problem elsewhere, assuming his temp probe isn't playing up his case temp seems too high.

im thinking the same. every fan in my pc is a slow 120mm fan (the psu, 2x case fans and the cpu fan are all 120's running <1400rpm) and here's the result:

new%20build3.jpg

cpu loads at 48c, nortbridge sits at 45c (ati board, passive cooled northbridge with x/300 onboard). ambient isnt shown there, but everythign else inside the pc is nice and cool.

My case only takes 120mm fans
so there isnt much I can do there.
there are two fans that cover the otes in the mobo which I have disconnected as they are very loud. It is the fatality board. I suppose thats why the pmv temp is so high
any thoughts

Well disconnecting the fan isn't a good idea, assume you mean the one over the NB. They're not the worlds quietest I agree, you have two choices on that.
1) Add a Zalman Passive HSF, you may well need to mod it to give room for the Graphics.
2) Water cool it, there are blocks available which are compatable with the NB placement although they are, I believe, fairly restrictive :/...

120mm on the fans is fine, what I'm trying to deduce is if you have them setup correctly. If for example they are all pushing air into the case then I'd expect the temps to rise.

sorry I didnt mean the NB as that is cooled by a Zalmen
I mean the heatsinks on the mofsets. there are two fans and they are noisy as hell so I thought I would unplug them as most mobo's dont have fans there. Not sure if this is ok to do.
Maybe the Zalmen isnt good enough, I know it heats up a lot. Its too hot to touch most of the time.

Ahhh I know the fans you mean, forgot about those, as long as you remove them ( not just unplug) you should be fine as the Freezer directs some air over the mosfets.

For the record my PC is currently showing

CPU 45
System 38
PWM 49

That's on the same mobo/cpu/graphics combo as you, the two back fans aren't running ( hadn't noticed have to check that some time ), CPU folding so 100% load, two 80mm ambers providing input, single 80mm amber providing output. Cooling is Arctic Freezer on the 850XT ( actually an unlocked GTO2) and Arctice Freezer 64 on the CPU.

System is overclocked as per the sig.

ok thats great
I will remove the fans from the board.
The reason I watercooled the pc was to make it as quiet as I can
but the fans that came with the apex220 are loud even when run at
5v. Iv got two Ambers on the rad and two Antec 3 speed fans in the case
which are not the quietest.
I want to put the Ambers in the case and two possibly Panaflo fans on
the rad, ran through the fan controller.

Oops got posters muddled up.. your watercooling but don't think there is a huge problem with removing the fans.. was thinking you where cooling using a freezer 64. However as long as we get your case temp sorted then I'm sure you'll be fine :).

I'm still concerned by your system temp though, as you can see my AIR cooled system has a noticeabley cooler system temp.

Ive found a place selling these NMB-MAT fans, they are available either with 3 or 4 pin conectors. Next to the 4 pin link it says 7v. I want to run these at max air flow, does this mean i cant with a 4 pin molex and I have to buy a 3 pin? TIA

Just ask the kind lady to 12v mod them m8.

Its just a simple moving of one molex pin to another hole.

She is very nice and helpful lol

Thanks, are the 3pins allso 7v or 12v?

Not too sure, i always thought they were 12v put putting big fans on em can damage the connector by drawing too much power

My 3pins are connected to my molex's anyway so that should be ok ?

According to that pic squiffy to change between 12v and 7v you just swap the red and yellow wires ?

Nice link btw.

What's good any other fan on that Y cable will be 7V, so you only need to do it once for the first fan in the chain (label the molex 7V as you wouldn't want to plug it into a optical/hard drive) :) so for htpc single Y molex to 7v, other rear case fan is connected into the female molex, and the other fan is 7v also.

Excellent pictures those ! thanks

I just went to have a go and found my swiftech pump and fans are wired into the same molex .. doh!
