I think my netgear DG834G v2 might be on its way out, its currently set to "modem only" and is working with a WNDR3700 router. Ive got an O2 wireless box 2 which i did manage to get working in modem only mode the last time my netgear crapped out but the O2 box was a cripped POS to begin with (even more so now with the firmware messing i had to do to make it go modem only) so i dont entirely trust it.

Whats the best standalone ADSL2+ modem? Is there one? I didnt really see anything that great on amazon/broadbandbuyer last time i looked, just stuff with mediocre reviews and the price point of an entry level wireless adsl router which imo is ridiculous.

Draytek Vigor120, which you'll have come across, that's about it. Again the same price point as an entry-level router, but then there's very little market for standalone modems.

I'd say the O2 Box in bridge mode is your best bet. I probably sound like a stuck record recommending it, but mine's been flawless in bridge mode for the best part of 2 years after setting it up like so.

I bought my Sky branded Netgear DG834GT for about £5.50 on the auction site sometime last year, I debranded it myself and its now running a fully packed custom firmware from DGTeam, exellent piece of equipment for very little cost!

Im on a BE LLU 24meg package btw

My Linksys AM200 never let me down, though I don't think it supports Annex M, just normal Annex A. I'll be putting it in MM shortly, along with my ADSL routers as I'm now on cable.

I've got a Dlink DSL-320T and despite bad reviews its worked perfectly for me. I got it from a popular auction site for around £10

2 years you say, ok cool, ill save myself some cash then and just replace the netgear with the wireless box 2 when the netgear dies :) Its already been set up to work in modem only mode from the last time the netgear went kaput.

The O2 box is pretty pants really, but if you're just using it for modem duties it should cope fine, and costs nothing. The issue some people have with bridging is they lose access to the O2 box's configuration pages, useful for checking connection stats, but the instructions I followed allow you to loop a cable back from your router/switch into a spare port on the O2 box and still have access.
