Hi, I've been using my third vp930 for around a year and i've been watching the bottom of the screen get slowly peppered with dead and dying pixels (around 40 now).

I love the image quality but i've had it with the dead pixels and X shaped backlight bleed, anyone who's used one of these screens will know its vibrant and works well with games and videos as well as office work so im asking whats a good modern replacement?

I think its probably time for me to get a widescreen 20" but im not opposed to having a 19" again if its up to scratch.

My main concern is a good backlight, preferably i'd want a screen that uses a p-mva panel like the viewsonic does.

Thanks in advance.

Your VP930 should still be under warranty I think, but anyway, it's a case of deciding on size. After a 19" 5:4 you may find a 20" widescreen looks too small, since it's quite a bit less height. All the 22" screens are TN+Film and won't have colours and viewing angles to match your VP930. So that leaves something like the Dell 2407WFP which is PVA and you can get for around £450ish. The Samsung SM-245B is another TN, the Benq FP241WZ is PVA but more pricey than the 2407, the LG L245WP looks like a good 2407 alternative so have a look at that, looks like PVA from the viewing angles.

If you do want to consider 20" then take a look at the NEC LCD20WGX2 and the Dell 2007WFP which both use IPS panels and are both excellent screens.

Don't think you're guaranteed a good backlight with any of these brands TBH. My Dell 2007WFP has a little backlight bleed and so does my LG LCDTV, and so did the previous 2 samsung PVA screens I've owned. Maybe NEC are a notch above in build quality.

Just get the Viewsonic replaced under warranty - most monitors have 3 years on site service.

My 1st AOC developed 7 dead pixels within 1 square inch and they replaced it immediately and that was 2 years after buying it. The backlight stopped working properly a year later and they still changed it even though the warranty was out.

If I was you I would definitly ring Viewsonic & get it replaced because the VP930 is still a really good quality TFT, not worth upgrading to the Dell 2407wfp.

I had a smaller version of the VP930 i.e VP191b I only upgraded because the difference was from 19" to 24". What I'm saying is paying all that extra money £400 + for a TFT when you can just have your 23" replaced would be a better option. . .

If you do insist on upgrading, the Dell 24" 2407wfp A04 revision is an excellent choice, I'm typing away on one right now - 4 years guarantee as well. ;)

Yeah i've already called them and a replacement is getting here on tuesday, i've got some concerns about the build quality of their screens (this would make it my fourth) but i certainly cant complain about their support.

I'm still tempted to bung it onto ebay and get something else but like you guys are saying its slim pickings, those dell 2407wfp screens do look damn fine but i doubt my 8800 gts would match its resolution that well...and they cost a fair bit.

Any more thoughts? i heard there is a new revision of the vp930, wonder if that's what viewsonic will send me and what the benefits are.

Cheers
