Just wondering if anyone on here knows of any good American "State" Universitys.

Im thinking about doing a masters in the US after finishing off my degree in the UK and have been looking around. Best looking Uni ive found so far is The University of Central Florida that does a course about Computer Networks thats right up my alley.

I know costs are high, looking about £12-15,000 for the year but im going more for the experience than the qualification.

Im quite interested in becoming a teacher and wonder if anyone knows about the US education system, do they have a similar system to our "PGCE" qualification?

Cheers

Ohio State is supposed to be pretty decent. I know a couple of guys who attend, they're both doing computer related courses and both like it.

Why not go to a UK uni with an American exchange program? That way you'll pay the UK fees, but the US living expenses. :o

are there any UK unis that offer Masters exchange programs in IT?

I'm applying for a 4 year course (chemistry) and all the bigger departments (manchester, bristol etc) offer a year in industry, or a year abroad in the 3rd year. the year abroad can be in an European country where English isn't the first language, but there are lots of places in the US and Canada as well. Look on some websites for online prospectuses.

See that is of no use to me because im on my 3rd year of a uni course already, and just want to do a nice little 1 year masters course when i finish my degree

Oh sorry. I probably should have read your first post a little more closely.

If i were you I'd just go onto the websites of some american unis

*Universities.

If you want an experience, why not consider becoming an ESL teacher for a year or two and then going back to the UK and doing the PGCE? With a PGCE you'll be welcomed with open arms in a lot of countries around the world.

You know you don't need the masters to be a teacher right?

Yeah i know that, but as i said, I want to go to the us primarily for the experience. I want to be in a college/university environment also so i dont really want to go travelling.

Its all about the cheerleaders really ;)

Ill have a search about ESL as ive never heard of that, cheers!

The Ohio State University is a great choice, as are UC Berkeley, UCLA, Penn, Michigan, and U Wisconsin at Madison.

EDIT: If you're looking for somewhere a bit more low-key, Miami University (in Oxford, Ohio) is an absolutely fantastic school. It is on par with the private Ivy League schools in many areas and, as a state school, costs a fraction as much. And Oxford's a darling little town as well. :)

Dont go to Ohio state though, theyre football program sucks, them and LSU robbed UGA.

UCF sucks at best. Come to UGA its ranked in the top 5 public business schools and we have all sorts of computer programs. Otherwise check out georgia tech.

Ohio state, UF, UGA, and those listed are all good schools.
