Good Bass Riffs

Slightly OT but as there are some bass players in here, i was wondering how the bass solo on Rancid's 'Maxwell Murder' is rated difficulty-wise. You can listen to it @ Purevolume.com. Random i know, but i always thought it was really impressive! :p

A friend of mine who was learning it at the time said he was surprised at it not being nearly as hard as it sounds, but I'm sure it's not easy either!

Matt plays with a pick and three fingers, too, he's got a weird old style.

Stone Roses - I Am The Ressurection (end part)

Sigur Ros - Gosoli (This may be to due it being live and the ecstacy of being able to feel my knee cartlidge shake)

Yes. No bass used in any track on Elephant.
doesnt he drop to B? he tunes it weirdly, so if you've got a regularly tuned guitar vs a regularly tuned bass, the notes are only possible to emulate on the bass. why's everyone being so pedantic lately!?

isnt that something to do with the fact that he broke half the fingers on his fretting hand? so tuned the guitar to a low Drop tuning so he could play easily and with 1 finger?

I haven't heard of that one before.

The White Stripes are really into a simple, pure, unpolished sound. Hence why no computers were used in the recording of Elephant. It's kind of cool thinking that my Elephant Vinyl was mixed using no computers whatsoever. Anyways, I always thought White said there would strictly be no bass in his recording of Elephant.

Lots of later Megadeth is quite good for beginers. Usually moderately quick root notes with interesting links between chords and interesting lines on the choruses. Family Tree is quite a good example.

I can't believe no one has mentioned "Come Together" by The Beatles yet.

Incredibly easy and one of the most instantly recognisable bass riffs in history.

Blink 182 - Carousel
Rage Against the Machine - Freedom
Rage Against the Machine - Bullet in the Head
Rage Against the Machine - Bombtrack

At the Drive in - Quarantined (the intro bass riff)

Goes on for a while and is really fun to play (Although I play guitar, I can play some bass).

Rush - YYZ
RHCP - Around the World

If we are in Stone Roses mode then Made of Stone is great to play. There are so many of Mani's great bass riffs on the Second Coming that are often drowned out by Squire's guitar, tracks like How Do You Sleep, Good Times and Daybreak

YYZ is hardly beginner, more Beginner/Intermediate when you have some confidence

Sorry to yet again make an Elvis recommendation but you ought to hear the live 1972 version of polk salad annie. Jerry Scheff does a wonderful psychedelic bass solo in it.
