Good beds?

silent night !

had a couple of those in the past and both have been rubbish

we have a Dorlux pocket sprung one at the moment which is absolutely superb

Ikea mattresses are great, but their proprietary sizes mean you will need an ikea bed frame to make it fit right too.

Sealy Posturepedic is what I have, best bed I've ever had by a mile very happy with it :D not the cheapest beds but worth it and you can get good deals if you get "last seasons" at your local store.

We have one of them too. It's pretty good. Only problem is that we've got it on an el cheapo base from Argos and my wife can't stand the creaking when we're... uh... practising our high speed synchronised knitting... so you have to kinda take it slow which isn't always the best thing.

Any recommendations for specific mattress type? Just checked one site and around 8 differenct types!

It's like buying a PC :D

Well what do you like in a mattress? Hard, soft, one which doesn't allow you to move (the otherpedic ones)?

All different types do different things.

Need more info!

you want a pocket sprung one , the more pockets the better (2000 is good ) , obviously this is simplistic but it's a good place to start

one of my mates has one of the new memory foam types he says its comfy enough but that it's simply too warm, bearing in mind we live in scotland and he has to have the heating off in his bedroom so it's bearable :p

The Sealy I have is ace, I think it's a sealy base too either way it's a fantastic bed, no creaking sounds not that it matters it's only good when the headboard is causing dents in the wall!! :D

You really, really need to spend a decent amountof time lying on the mattress before you choose one.
We were going to go for a pocket sprung 2k springs mattress (about £500-£800 for a double from memory) but then tried out the memory foam matresses.
As a couple we preferred the memory foam, I particularly like the way that you partner can roll around and you barely notice it whereas for some reason (even on 2000 springs) you tend to notice it on sprung mattresses.

I am not sure that a memory foam mattress can "breathe" as well as a pocket sprung, I think it unlikely. However so far I am very happy with our mattress choice.

As for beds - I hate divans with a passion. I hate cheap bedframes with hardboard over the frame. I prefer sprung beds or beds with wooden slats (generally curved up) that give a little extra "spring" to the bed.

There's been a glut of bed threads recently..... is it because of excessive bed advertising?

4'?

Is this bed just for you, or are you anticipating company? If the latter, 4' is way too small.
rubbish, me and my fiance share a 4' bed, have done for a year and a bit. Feel lost in a king size, we're both small people.

I did this and the shop assistant woke me up :( (seriously)

How dare they do that :D there is nothing wrong with falling asleep in the bedding department, it shows them you like their product and might want to buy it.

So i hope you walked out in a huff :D

To the OP take a look HERE
