Well, as discussed in a previous thread, i've decided to buy the 920 as opposed to the 975, and use the money saved to put towards getting the 980x a couple of weeks after it is released - so i just came by to check if these components would work well together, any unnecessary/necessary adjustments, etc. So, here goes:

Lian li x2000 full tower case
Asus p6t7 Supercomputer
OCZ Blade series 2000MHz
Be Quiet! 1100W Supply
--- These have all been purchased and assembled

Still to be bought/due to arrive are:

intel i7 920
Coolermaster V10
ATi 5970 xfx BE ( to be crossfired at a later date )
One intel x25-E (for os)
Two intel x25-M (for high performance light storage)
One WD Caviar Green 2tb ( for media, etc )
Asus Xonar STX
Logitech Z2300 speakers

Please note this is a project, so its safe to say this will take at least a few months!:D

Corsair H50 seems to be the in thing at this time. What kind of clocking are you looking at? Sory of guessing with that setup you would want to be pushing 4 .1 .2 ?

rest looks amazing though unless its just passion what are you going to do with it ? :) with that spec I would be going all out with neons and water all over the shop :)

Moleh

I wouldn't get a V10 either. Also, I'm really not sure what benefits you'd get from using an X25-E as a boot drive. Just install the OS on the X25-Ms and get another 5970 instead.

yeh i would go with Corsair H50-1 to cool the cpu and buy another fan so you can have the push and pull effect

Yeah, i was definitely considering the h50 as well. Although forgive me, but i've never watercooled before, so i guess i'll have to do some research. So once that's set up, i'll definitely be looking towards the 5ghz mark once the 980x arrives.:D Its really just to push the benchmark, and for delicious game graphics.

The x25-E use SLC as opposed to MLC, and the last thing i want is my beautiful win7 ultimate to bail out on me. Plus the write speeds are much faster, so upgrading the os in the future will take a lot less time-i'm only looking into the 32gb model, so its not that costly.

the case i have already has a positive air flow, so i don't think another fan is necessary, i already have 6 in total:D i'll definitely look into water cooling, though.

Thanks for the reassurance guys! I'm also looking into the dell ultrasharp 30", so CCC with 5970's is overkill i think. Man, this is gonna cost a lot.:p

If you are contemplating water cooling then why didn't you buy an 800D? The Lian Li is very much an air cooling case.

So what should i buy? I still have a couple of weeks before i order in another bundle of components (cooler included) so h50 or v10 hybrid?

Why have you bought some items the now, if you are going to wait a few weeks for the rest?

Is it not a bit like having a car without an engine, or a Ps3 without a tv?

Buy the Corsair 800d and the H50

I already have the case, like i said.

Its a project, like i said.

And thanks for the appreciation guys, this build really my heart in it!:D

OP wasn't contemplating watercooling, he/she was originally going for a V10 air cooler, and peole have said go for the corsair H50 which to be fair isn't really proper watercooling anyway! BTW you're not going to be getting anywhere near 5GHz with either of these anyway, you'll need to be looking at liquid nitrogen for that sort of overclock ;)

OP why are you buying your parts in bits? By the time you get it all up and running the original parts you have will be out of date

What is this PC going to be used for? Unless you're going to be doing a lot of video encoding and the like then the new intel gulftown six core processors will be pointless, even a core i7 for gaming is a tad ott!

I agree with the above as a i7 is wasted unless you want serious encoding power....I think hes trying to say he wants to get 5ghz on a i7 980x

Yeah, but not massively outdated - and besides, outdating is inevitable anyway. I'd just like to future-proof this pc for at least a few years until something radically faster and more powerful arrives. And yeah, i realise now that 5GHz is probably asking a bit much:p Most likely 4GHz and a bit above. Oh, and no video encoding, mostly gaming and benchmarking. I don't care how nerdy i am!:D

So you're going to spend thousands more than you need to just to do a few days of benchmarking. Utterly pointless, worth it...........not!

You could spend half your budget and get a decent gaming machine, in fact with the amount of money you've probably spent so far you could have been up and running and playing games now, instead of creating willy waving threads on this forum :p:rolleyes:

AND gaming, for a good while - i don't want to be swapping parts out every couple of months just because my e-peen won't be as big as it used to be.

Now please, which cooler??:)
