Good Case?

hmm, if i put a vf900cu on my x1900xt, how would the akasa case handle the heat load? the stacker has fans all over the place and one would have been directly over the gfx card. so not sure if the akasa would be much of a benefit over the current case i have,.

The Akasa cools considerably better than the 830, both me and WJA96 have found this.

Thats without the extra fan on the side panel. The Eclipse was consistantly 4 deg lower at load on my 2400xp test system with ti4800 graphics card, the difference is even more if you add a SLI setup.

The Akasa can handle the heat much better than the 830, none of the heat is pushed around the case, its straight in cool, straight out slightly warmer.

Its the right dimensions, with the right fan placement which is the optimal way to cool a ATX spec system.

Unless you mount the 830 with focused flow delta fans I could not imagine a situation where it would produce better temperatures than a comparative noise Eclipse.

hi m8 the best case you can buy for cooling in my experence is without doubt the thermaltake armor ...from site
Optimized internal space and airflow
Minimized noise level
Ventilantion opening on top (62% opening ratio)
Totally Fanless thermal system validated
(Fanless CPU/ VGA cooler, fanless PSU, fanless chassis are supported and tested by Thermaltake.)

hope this helps

#1 case for cooling performance is the Akasa Eclipse 62 with engineered side panel. Fit 3 Akasa Ambers or Acoustifan dustproofs for peace and quiet. Use tights as dust filters.

If you've got £150 to spend I'd have the Lian Li V1000B+II with the black drive stealth covers. Not as quite as good for cooling as the Eclipse but it looks the business. That said I am sitting here in a room with 4 Eclipses and 1 V1000B+ so you can see what's important to me.

As above, yes if you bung 100cfm+ fans at silly noise levels en mass into a case it will beat the Eclipse, but just the general run of the mill prve / noise / performance fans then the Eclipse beats everything out there.

Agree with the v1000+ statement aswell, although it would be the other way round for me. :p

finally my ftp is accessable again so i got the pics up. please excuse the wiring sockets mashed up into the wall, i have had the room rewired so that the plugs under the desk are directly routed to a seperate RCD on the main power feed to the house. this way if anything trips the power in the house the computers in my room are not effected and vice versa, dodgey pc will not take the rest of the power out the house. also have a new ups system comming in early next week.

i need to get that wall plastered up now, and strip the wall paper and just skim the room and give it a lick of paint. laminated floorboards comming in soon too. :D

right, take a look at the ghetto pc case i have. big typhoon is too big to allow that side case intake fan to fit inside so had to mount it outside. only exhaust fans are the psu fan, and one fan right at the top of the case. the fan on the side panel is the only intake fan i have.
so would the eclipse case benefit me?

Yes, I've had a big typhoon in an Eclipse no, worries. Also - the engineered side panel basically does the same 'bodge' as your ghetto case, ie. the extra fan sits outside the line of the case in a shroud fitted to the side panel. The Eclipse is also about 70mm wider than the beige case in the picture.

If you've got £150 to spend, I'd still get the V1000B+II though. The side panels alone are superb items, the release mechanism makes everything else look like rubbish and the full range of facia covers and stealthing plates means no-one will know your PC has beige bits. The actual internal layout is superb and the new +II version has the 120mm fan over the graphics cards to encourage better air flow.

hmm, the gfx card is the hottest item in my pc at them moment so any additional cooling over that would be great.

iv put the zalman cooler on the x1900xt now so the heat inside the case is higher than with the stock cooler although the noise is a lot less.

anyone else have another opinion on what case would provide the best cooling for me.

is it the V1000B+II or the eclipse?

so you want him to buy a akasa eclipse, 3 ambers and a pair of tights! :D
me mate, i want the best cooling for my hardware= Armor
3 x silentCat 12cm Intake (16db = 62.2cfm)
2 x ambers 12 cm out (back and roof )
1 x amber 12 cm on zalman bracket at cpu and ram
all on fan controler eg 6-7v so minimal noise
spec =
6600 c2d@ 400x8
geil 6400@1:1
evga 7950 gx2
pb5 dx wifi
Philips 32" lcd
temps = never goes above 36c

He only needs to buy the stockings if his girlfriend/wife/partner never ladders theirs. Ripping their tights off with your teeth usually guarantees a fresh annual supply... ;) And chunky tights with micro-skirts are this season's fashion du jour according to SWMBO so good hunting.

Then yours either runs super-cool at idle or you're not running 2 threads of folding@home 24/7. If not - why not? Team 10 needs you. Billy the Impaler has written a fabulous guide to setting this up here
