Good CD ripping software

I use EAC to rip to Mp3 (lame encoder) for the ipod, and Flac for streaming round the house in one pass. You have to use a little filter called mario that does the actual encoding, and point EAC towards the mario config. EAC will take care of your mp3 tags as well.

Its a pig to set up mario and if you want to go down this route then google is your friend as there are lots of guides, but the config commands have changed as mario evolved so make sure that you are using the right tutorial for the version that you are using.

Thought this could be done using FLAC which comes with EAC? How many more apps do i need to do this?

Dont think i can be bothered with hours of reading to be honest. :o

An iPod won't (normally) play FLAC files. It'll play Apple Lossless files, but you probably wouldn't want to do that anyway because of the limited space available on the iPod. Best to rip to FLAC for archival and computer playback purposes and create separate MP3/AAC versions for your iPod or MP3 player. I find even 320kbps or v0 rips to be a bit big for use on my iPhone.

Been ripping with FLAC now and started to use Foobar2000 as my media player as this can play these type of formats.

As for the setup of Foobar ive set up the interface (scratchboard etc) Added the Libraries and pictures for the albums.

Just wondering what advanced settings to use though in preferences.

Il start from here, what to do with:

Replay gain, which option to choose for albums?

Options for playback, and output? Which device to choose if you get me.

Buffer length etc.

Really new to this so some guidence on it would be great. Looks like a good little audio player as well.

Thanks

Ogg vorbis is a good codec if space is an issue, far superior to mp3 at low bitrates, though many portable devices don't play them :(
