as above

ive looked at 1and1.co.uk

ive also seen a jonny69's thread re webhosting. are vidahost good?

im not looking for much tbh just a play around with my own site and to get into web design really as i will be doing a site for my dads friend soon.

£30 a year isnt going to break the bank

I am actually doing the same thing through one.com.

4gb web space, unlimited traffic and email, 1 year subscription + domain name is going to cost me £10.50 for the year :D

It should give me what I need while I am learning.

i tried a few before finding vidahost and i finally jave stuck with them as they are great, really helpful advice that gets answers in record quick time (literally < 2 minutes most of the time), great price. Can find cheaper places out there but i hear you never get what you pay for and if you start having a bit of traffic they will be quick to cut you off.

tbh though for learning what hodydoody has suggested seems great.

If you dont mind a US host then Dreamhost are cheap and have been reliable for me, you can get about 2 years hosting for about £50 if you use a promo code.

Don't listen to him about dreamhost, they have awful setup of overselling and overloading servers.

Go VidaHost. I'm with them, they are UK based, have literally the best online support I've ever delt with, and are realistically priced to boot.

Cant say I've had any issues with them and it seems to get positive reviews on the oc host review.

Did you have a bad experience with them ?

I have also had no problem with them and service has been top notch, quick support, brilliant control panel, cheap and practically unlimted bandwidth.

Only downside is their located in the US :(

i have a website and want to get a new hosting company. I have my own domain name.

it's a very small site with little traffic.
If i go with one.com can I transfer the site/upload changes with smartftp like I do now, and use it for emails etc

I also created a couple of email address with my domain name, are these easy to transfer?

thanks

Register1 are really great, although I really dislike their control panel, the service they give you is second-to-none and it's who I recommend my (freelance) clients go to. Business clients just use our own servers :p

I used Dreamhost for a year before recently switching to Vidahost.

I never had any real problems with Dreamhost but I must say, Vidahost is considerably faster and I'm very happy I switched.

Edit:
Felt compelled to add, I had a bit of trouble moving an SQL database from my old host and Vidahost replied to each of my emails within 15 minutes.
Also, If you spend a little bit of time on google, you should be able to find a one time use 20% discount code.
