Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

just picked up a 2nd N40L and stuck 16Gb and a quad NIC in it for ESXI and VMware labs (which will also be migrating my current server/storage).

Got a steal on a 2nd hand N54L for a friend of mine to run his own homelab (his first so nothing OTT), slapped 16gb RAM and a 525gb SSD. He's absolutely over the moon that he could do it for less than £200.

I miss my microserver but wouldn't swap 20 cores to go backwards

ebay prices on completed listings seem to range from 90-160

quick google suggests you should be able to team the 332i NIC using the HP networking tool, may depend on your switch however.

I seem to have lost one of my plastic drive caddies in my Gen8, anybody got a spare one that they can send me or know the part number so I can replace?

Holy mother of whotsit, part no is 691585-001, they are £80!!!!!!! (going to have another look for it!)

No, you need 652998-001 and I paid £15 for a very good used one from the auction site a few months ago. The same supplier currently has one there for £22.

What's the go to 16gb ram for a N54L ?

Cheap as possible (playing with some VMs which are not mission critical, so doesn't have to be ecc)

Has anyone ordered two servers from the same supplier on the same order, and not had problems with the cash back?

When I did mine, I could only do five cash backs per deal per person via HP. (did 3 at once)
 
been tinkering with my microserver with unraid

managed to get:

6x HDDs Drives inc Parity and 2x SSD Cache drives in a pool

using a Highpoint R620 PCI card to add 2x 6Gbs Sata ports for the SSDs

rather impressive for such a small server.
 
Hi All,

Im looking for a cheap low profile graphics card for my gen8 and considering upgrading my basic CPU any cheap option, maybe a list of compatible CPUs ?
 
i3-3220T, i5-3470T, depends what you want to use it for..

I'll have a Xeon E3-1260L going in January at somepoint..
