Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

I have found £221 deal inc VAT & delivery, or £121 with cashback :)
Sold! Looks like I'll be getting a second one of these then :D

Out of interest, does anyone have any recommendations on fitting a second hard drive in the 5.25" bay?

At the moment I have the cold swap bays filled out, and a 3.5" system drive in the 5.25" bay with a 5.25->3.5" bracket. I'd like to add another 3.5" drive to my RAID array and swap the system drive out for a 2.5" drive, so I have a 2.5" and a 3.5" in the 5.25" bay. There's plenty of space, but I can't seem to find any brackets or adapters to accommodate this.

As it stands I'm looking at keeping the 5.25->3.5" bracket, sitting the 2.5" drive underneath that, potentially on a rubber sheet or some other form of insulation to prevent noise/vibration. Is there a better way? :)

Icybox IB-172SK, unknown if it takes 12.5mm disks though.

Do bear in mind the cashback offer has been extended for an extra month on at least five occasions now; it began in December (if I recall correctly) and hasn't stopped since then ;)

I have been looking at one of these as it seems like a great offer. The only thing that is putting me offf is that I would much prefer a RAID 5 and I see that this is only RAID 0 or 1. I was wondering if it is possible to get RAID 5 set up by installing a new RAID controller or indeed by any other means and if anyone had done it, how and does the server still run okay?

its supposed to be 28 days, but it took them 37 to send me the cheque and that was with me e-mailing them :(

Thats better than some cashback merchants online, Iv had to wait 6 months for payments to come through before, as it was done on my credit card, I can wait I suppose.

I pay regular lump sums back on the card anyway

Can't wait for mine to arrive tomorrow :) I opted out of the free delivery so I could mess about with it over the weekend, next day @ £6.99 via City Link

The server does hardware RAID 0 and 1; you can install a PCI-Express RAID controller card for other modes, or use software-based RAID on any number of operating systems.

Performance with most software-based RAID implementations will be more than enough for most people's needs :)

One of the limitations I found with the RAID is that if a drive dies and you swap it out you can't set it to rebuild from the BIOS level and it only seems to rebuild at software level once you are in Windows.
