Good do-it-all media player?

Another vote for VLC.

I always found WMP & MPC classic to through a wobbly if you try and play anything even slightly corrupted. VLC just distorts for the bad frames and moves on, far better.

used to use VLC untill i started using Media player classic. colours are great and loads really quickly. always had trouble with any other media player and VLC sometimes didnt work.

winamp lite for music
media player classic & ffdshow & quicktime alternative for video
Might have to end up doing what you do. :o

Yeah VLC seems to not work with some DVDs for me. :(

Win.

Except, I use Amarok + vlc now (wrong OS). Working on Windows, I used to use the same combo, though...

VLC sucks for music because it doesn't have a music library. quality is good though....

Media Player Classic is brilliant. VLC is great but the interface is just too clonky. MPC does everything including screenshots and subtitling in regular intuitive interface like original WMP. Stuff works just like it should if you're creature of habit - space pauses, arrow keys control volume and steps etc...

why is the subtitle menu in "navigate"?

apart from that, I love MPC. I used to use it for almost all my videos, because it had excellent controls and things like "shutdown when finished".

however, I just got a media centre remote the other day and now that I can turn the PC off from my bed with that, I tend to use Media Centre in vista for videos and iTunes for music.

My TV card's been in a cupboard since I got a TV.

It's an abomination!
WMP11 is very nice, I used to use it when I had my iPod backup on the PC, the interface is slick and the album art display is neat.

I use iTunes now though for music/iPod management.

Or does somebody wanna enlighten me on getting Foobar to work with embedded album art? :)

Never worked for me, even with the correct plugin. :o

VLC is good, but if your going to be using a lot of video formats like real media and quicktime then I think Media player classic with the right codecs. Off the top of my head, the community codec pack or klite pack would be what you would need for things like .avi and .mkv files. And then the codecs from quicktime and real alternative. That would basically give you an all in one video player.

And then for music, well I find the player you use depends how you have your music organized. If you organize your music by folders when winamp can be good if your used to your folder structure. If your music is not every organized then Itunes is your best bet. Both Itunes and Winamp are very good audio players.

Looking back on your first post, I think you will be best off with Itunes for music. Seeing as its the easiest way to sync your iPod although you can use plugins with winamp. But there is no point these days as Itunes and a very good audio player. I also find it organizes files pretty nicely.

i just use the newest one on www.codecs.com or if you're using vista, then use vista codec package

press ctrl + 0 to remove the windows theme from it (and ctrl + #) between 1&5 until you've removed any info you don't want (do it when there's a video playing, it'll make more sense)

also, ctrl + 7 = playlist

Just wondered when playing video with VLC is there a way to show the scroll bar without having to minimize player
