Good first car?

Insurance on my 53 plate 1.6 Ford Focus was £1130 for 10 months - Admiral NCB accelerator. I'm 25 years old.

Toyota Yaris 1.3 (old shape). Great first car. Lots of fun and easy to drive. Quick for a 1.3 too.

My dad had one as a courtesy car, it was slow, the interior was awful, the ride was very harsh and gave my dad a bad back after a few days and the sound system in it was non existant. I think they put two 0.5w speakers in the dash. Also there's the stupid dial position. Just a nasty car in every way

Then he was unlucky and had a bad one mate! I've got a 1.3 vvt-i GLS and it's an awesome little car. Granted, mine is lowered with decent suspension but it handles like a go-cart. Get into the VVT-I zone and you're laughing. I've driven loads of small cars, fiestas, puntos, pugs - for the engine size it goes well and the for price you can pick them up for these days its a bloody steal. Granted the sound system is poor but thats not exactly expensive to fix. And the digital dash is a fantastic idea! I'll be sorry to see it go if I ever get rid of it.

Each to their own I guess!

I'm totally clueless when it comes to cars (so I'll be stepping out of this forum soon enough), but I've had a 99 Seat Ibiza for four years now (1.4 I think). Looks decent enough and you could pick one up for four hundred (if it was me I'd definitely get something cheap and spend the money elsewhere - another reason for me swiftly escaping this area on completion of this post). Has a little bit of go. When I'm rich and stuff I'd rather like a Leon.

Clio 1.2 will take so much abuse its un real.

Exclude the cars with the 1.6 engines. not a chance with insurance.

Clios are more commen so more parts are there to nab from srap yards.
you would be surprised, the focus 1.6 would be cheaper for me to insure than a fez 1.25. my current astra 1.6 is ins group 4, whereas a fiesta 1.25 is insurance group 6. indeed, focus 1.6 can potentially be insurance group 5 in certain trims, so cheaper than a fiesta.

Dont get hung up on CC's, they dont matter a single bit.

Also, im not sure about the more common. I would expect there to be a similar number of focus's on the road as there are clios.

A grand on a BMW? Are you a mental? It'll be like driving an allotment shed. Not to mention he wouldn't get insured on it.

I've just paid around a grand for a 2.8 litre allotment shed...... Thankfully, insurance, given my age (38) & occupation (Class 1 HGV driver) is not a problem for me. :)

As my friends will testify, Yes, I'm mental. :p;):D
