Hi there

OK my SKY Broadband is now fully up and running as I ditched Virgin Media when they decided to dump the SKY Channels. I was on NTL 10MB package, with their basic 2 channel packages, cost me £50 per month.

I have transferred to the SKY 2 Channel package and first of all the TV and supplied box is an improvement. First of all the Sky box has audio outs which for me is an improvement over the NTL affair which had no audio out. Now with SKY I've got so many more channels. With Virgin had something like 2-3 music channels wheras now I have approx 20. Also as I have the SKY One package I obviously have that too but plus channels like SCI-FI, Bravo, Living etc. etc. all stuff I was missing before.

Now over to the Internet I am on their 16MB package, with wireless router etc. and their free phone.

My new monthly cost is £25.00 !!
Needless to say I seem to have so much more but at basically half the price, so where is the catch?
My internet seems quicker at both downloading and browsing. Plus whenever I have rang SKY they are quick to answer and actually helpful, wheras NTL/Virgin on the other hand were damn right rude at times.

So is this all to good to be true?

Any programmes or websites I can use to test my internet speed?

Then I can post the results here and you guys can let me know if its an OK connection speed or not?

Hi there

Here is a picture from the test:-

Does that seem reasonable? Overall it feels quicker to me in general use and considering how cheap it is compared to what I was paying on NTL/Virgin it seems pretty good to me. :)

Well it seems you are getting around 7mb down and 768k Up, so not as quick downloading as NTL 10mb but quicker upload.

I still have NTL, if I unplug the SKY router and just chuck the NTL connection back in will it still work as its not disconnected yet? Then I can run the same test on the NTL connection to compare.

Our line truely and utterly sucks.

We're supposed to be on the 24mb Be connection, and I'm running that test to find out we're getting about 1.3mb/s.

What else should I find out about my line?

You on the 16MB like I've got?

Just wonderin why yours is even better on download? Quality of BT line or just location thing?
