As title really. I've got a 2008 Fiesta ST with Ford lockers and I'm losing faith in how long the key will last.

Are there any recommended locking nuts with super strong keys which will take some abuse which you guys recommend?

That was exactly my thought.

And then I had another one. They can still undo ALL of the wheel bolts... :(

I'll have a dig around about those marshallman, thanks for the heads up!

Funny this thread came up. I got a nail in my tyre last Monday and had to get the wheel off to get the tyre repaired. I couldn't get the thing off because the locking wheel nut had seized and when they key was put on, one of the pins on the key bent (Not the star type)

The steel is too soft. I had to get a guy out with a special tool to get the damn things off. Luckily only ended up costing me £80 including him fixing the puncture. I've just put normal wheel nuts on for now.

Ouch, quite an unfortunate bill! I had 3 pin locker keys die on a Corsa Sport I had some years ago, luckily a local garage got them off for 20 quid but it isn't a pleasant experience.

I've had a quick browse at TPI stuff. Which style of key would you assume is strongest?

The top one while on top of the socket to fit it sticks miles out on an lbar and its really hard to take any torque out without stretching the locking sockets sides.

I always go for the second type now.

Ta for the info. My current ones are similar to the second type but I guess it must be down to the key material as they now jump a bit when you put some pressure on.

If those TPI ones are the bomb then I shall order some tonight :)

Mcgard always been good for me, very sinilar to the above.

Make sure you get black ones and black lock nuts if these are for your black wheels btw, will look much better than shiny silver nuts :)

I'd ditch them, more trouble than they're worth, haven't got any on my focus.

Either your car will go missing, or given that its a fiesta ST; the bumpers and side skirts will go missing before the wheels do.

Ditch them and don't look back, if they are standard factory wheels nobody will take them. If they are some super desirable expensive items then if someone wants them then locking nuts wont stop them and will probably result in further damage to your car.

Ditch them, I don't run with any locking nuts on my fiesta and I'm running with aftermarket alloys aswell. If someone wants to steal them they will locking nut or no locking nut.

I still see cars getting their wheels stolen. They always seem to be stolen at night either from pub car parks or broken down cars left in laybys overnight.

The worst bit is they don't use bricks these days, I always see the car dumped on the floor.

Ditched mine years ago after leaving the locking key on the locking nut and driving off. had to buy a replacement from mcgard

a friend of mine lost his mcgard key and realised one afternoon when he was selling his wheels

a quick drive to halfords and we had them off in the car park in minutes using a sacrificial 16mm socket

Anything made by TPI... Cold forged steel for both bolt and key! Swapped my Ford ones over when they key chewed after 4 uses ;)

Ended up getting some of these for £20 delivered which seemed good value, they're the ones for OEM ford wheels so all good, the key looks like it may well actually last! Ta for the recommendation :)
