Good MMORPGs?

used to play a game called MU online, was good me and a few mates played it a lot

there were seperate servers where you woul djust level up a lot faster, making the game much more playable :)

I'm playing WoW now and to be honest I'm not massively impressed, it's a poor version of the less well known Dark Age of Camelot.

Ultima online is still the best MMORPG if you ask me, even starting now with the poor 2d graphics I think it'd trounce most MMORPGs in terms of sheer depth. Plus it's due a client update next year I hear (I might well return).

Eve is probably the only one I'd personally try out now, don't get DAoC as it's a dying game, even if those that still play it claim it's not.

Eve or perhaps even Star wars galaxies? I haven't played that though, fancied a look but think it'd ruin my idea of the star wars universe forever :p

The harsh but honest truth: nothing compares to WoW at the moment (apart from maybe Eve if you like that sort of thing). It's leaps and bounds above the rest. Hopefully it won't stay like that for long, there a few more western MMOs coming out shortly including Age of Conan, LotR and Warhammer. Bit-tech did an article on up and coming mmos recently.

SWG was the best MMO ever, but Sony Onlline Entertainment tried to reel in the WoW players and made the game really crap.

GJ Sony. :(

Saga of Ryzom! There's an time unlimited free trial at the moment, but you're limited to a pretty massive newbie isle. Very cool skill based system, seasonal landscape changes and a decent attemp to simulate a living environment, and definitely the best community I've ever come across in a mmorpg.

Certainly not without it's problems, but well worth a look.

Edit - I agree with the comments about WoW being head and shoulders above anything else out there at the moment, but I just couldn't stand the community. Play the game for 10 minutes and you'll understand

EQ2, new expansion due soon, comes with the full game and some trial time if you are a new subscriber.

Personally i think its better then Wow but it is more demanding both system and gameplay/time wise.

SWG is broken now, don't touch it.

And the comments about WOWs "community" are understating how bad it is.

Yeap, and EQ2 isn't full of Kids :D

What server do u play on?

EQ1 was the best MMOG ever, until SOE decided to make it rubbish with the 7th expansion pack. Gj SOE :(

SWG was pants from the start though :p . Really pants. Raph Koster = good at designing tradeskills, bad at designing fun.

I'm holding out for Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, SOE are only publishing it so hopefully won't have anything to do with actual important decisions regarding the game. Tbh though its only a matter of time until SOE buy Sigil though :(

Nah it was pure quality from beta til pub 9, then it went slowly downhill.

I dunno what pub 9 is - I played it from the day of go-live for a couple of weeks. Most boring 2 weeks of my life.

Everquest 2.

Join the Nagafen PvP server on the Freeport side :D

The game has more depth than WoW, but does require a little more thought if you want to be good at it, which is a good thing. The new expansion, due out soon, is awesome too. But you didn't hear that from me ;) :p

Asheron's Call was the best MMO for years.

Now it's pitiful. And it's because there is a new evil in the world. The evil of WOW!

Don't hold your breath on SoH. Brads full of hot air. I not go into reason as that would be breaking the NDA If i was in beta to begin with :D

True, its a MMO where is you ask something in World chat you wont get Orly or NOOb as your only reply. In wow i dont think i once got help from anyone or just chatted, and there is something fundementaly wrong with a MMO where you get better XP solo.

I play a Fury on Guk right now, on the final leg and about to crack open all those double XP bottles.

Even before realising a while ago, that there is a Star Wars MMO game, I always had the feeling that such game would be a spot on thing. I played SWG for a while and, yeah, I didnt stand it for long but I still believe that, given a proper making a Star Wars-related MMO could become the big winner(with substantial help of the movies of course)

I enjoyed Saga of Ryzom, though it was let down by lack of player housing for me to subscribe to it. I want a MMORPG with a player based economy and crafting so it might be ideal for me let down by a few things. The community feals more mature than a lot I've played.

It's a skill-based game rather than level based and it's setup so that you can do what you like with your character's abilities, you can also modify the "talents" with special abilities to change spell effects which I thought was a really nice touch.

Dark Age of Camelot was a decent game but I never really got into it. It has a very good PvP system (Realm vs Realm combat) though might be showing its age now. I'm not sure what its community is like now either especially with Mythic working on Warhammer.

As for SWG I never could get into it when I tried it from retail, though one of my mates loved it. The NGE I thought had a decent combat system (as I play a lot of FPS) but too many bugs and lack of any community over the way SOE treated their customers. I tried it recently and the European servers seemed very quiet even on a weekend when I was playing.
