I play wow at the moment though i played Anarchy Online for about 4 years before. I think the basic package is free to play still.

I try to explain to friends who started MMORPG's with WoW how awesome Ultima Online was back in the day and they just think it sounds lame with no depth. People will never understand.

Hard to get into and a lot of work but worth it once you get endgame and in an organised linkshell.

Yeah can only really enjoy wow if you can contribute a lot of time to it, at the moment its only worth playing if you are in a top raiding guild aka in Naxx. Although saying that the changes to the pvp system in a bit will make it way more accessable to people with small play times.

Other than that id say wait for warhammer online, which is looking to be fantastic.

Another vote for Guild Wars, and personally I think the 3rd campaign is the best (so far - only been out a week) and I've played since Guild Wars release.

Currently there's an increasing amount of WOW players coming across to GW too.
