What do people recommend.
My favourites and the only ones I've played lost are

Soldier of fortune
C&C Renegade
COD
COD2
BF2


Is BF2142 worth it?

Any other fps that are great as MP, not interested in SP, simple but fun.
Don't wont any of these sneaky type ones, just all out war.

COD4 is awesome. Not really played enough COD2/3 multiplayer to compare which it is most like.
All I know it is more fun than both put together :D

If you don't like the grenade indicators just play hardcore mode (removes hud etc)
 
COD4 isn't really like COD2 multiplayer, in my opinion its nothing like it, but its still a good game. For what its worth i came from playing BF1942 to BF vietnam to BF2 and I loved BF2142.

Of course you always have CS:S and TF2
 
Get on a good server where they punish for nade spamming before 15 seconds at start of round are up etc and its great fun.....
 
was never a fan of CS

Will I need a gfx card update for cod4? I'm not bothered abouthigh detail, but I do like a high fps even if it's on low settings.

hmmm your proc and ram are fine, im not sure if the 6600gt will run it but my 7800gt ran cod4 fine on high/medium settings 60fps+ with the effects turned off (specular mapping and so on) so i guess its something you will have to check out by downloading the demo.

cod4 is different from cod2 and in many ways better so it gets a thumbs up from me to buy it, if it works.

obviously day of defeat source and team fortress 2 are games to look at aswell.

I want to upgrade computer, but I was hopping to do mobo and ram first, with cheap second hand c2d. Then at a latter date q6600 and gpu.

NO!, brought it to see what it was like and a waste of my money to be honest, save the cash for a better graphics card.
If you want a different gameplay download some mods for it, in list of favorites at top: AIX Mod, Nations at War, Sandbox, Forgotten Hope 2, Project Reality and Point of Existence.

Try the 2142 demo, should give you a feel for it. After having played BF2 to death i find a bit of bf2142 can be fun every now and then, its certainly worth a look.
 
COD4 is a must, you'll love it

I played BF2142 for about about 18 months and its also an excellent game but don't expect to rank up as quick as you do in COD4 :)

BF2142 is a hell of a lot quicker to rank up than BF2
 
bf2142 for more teamplay orientated TDM up to 64 players

cod4 for insanity DM at 3 times the speed. max players?
 
Thanks guys, picked it(cod4) up earlier and only just put it down, for a break :D...
Already have a few unlocks.

Cant wait for my mouse, keyboard and mouse mat to arrive.

My mouse is pretty dire.

Oh and it runs fine, At lower settings.

Still havent worked everything out yet, but still coming middle league :)
 
I played BF2142 for almost a year and then had a break during my studies. When I came back to it, I coulden't stand it! Don't ask me why because I really don't know what happened. I just coulden't get on with it. Give the demo a go and see how you get on.

Give Team Fortress 2 and HL2 Deathmatch a go, both loads of fun :D
