Good, older games?

what kind of games do you like?
Yes, that's a key question! I guess I'm more in the fast paced shooters and racing/simulation, less into plot driven/adventure games. But up for trying anything.
Games I've really enjoyed in the (distant) past: Wing Commander / X-Wing stuff, Quake/Doom/UT, Forza, CoD 1/2, Half Life, Starcraft, Warcraft II etc

Thanks, that's really interesting - but what a mess! Looking on 'Is There Any Deal' show's lots of places with stuff cheaper than Steam - even though it says delivery 'Steam Key'.
Is there ANY difference between buying directly through Steam and buying a Steam Key through a third party like GAMESPLANET?

The only real advantage of buying from steam is that you have (IIRC) 2hours or 2 weeks of running/owning said game in which you can refund the game. You can't do that on a key site if, for example, the game just won't run, or it's rubbish. Apart from that, no disadvantage that I can think of. Buy the steam key, go into steam, click add a game in the bottom left and hit activate a game, then paste in the code. Keep in mind that when you buy a key make sure that if you want it specifically on steam that is a steam key. E.g. you could buy an EA game and have it be a steam key, or it could be an Origin key (EA Launcher). The sites will tell you what it'll activate on.

Off the top of my head there are
Steam
Origin (EA)
UPlay (Ubisoft)
Battle.net (Activision/Blizzard)
GOG Galaxy (GOG)
Bethesda
Rockstar Launcher
Epic Games Launcher

I've probably missed some.

In my opinion I'd sign up for Epic Games and ensure you get the weekly free games. It's coming up to Xmas so they are likely to have a huge game free at some point based on the past free games (past free games have been GTA5, Batman entire series, Borderlands entire series, Darksiders, Hitman, Just Cause 4, etc - basically my entire library there is free games) also pick up Rocket League for free whilst you're there as that's great fun. Next weeks free game is Wargame. Every Thursday it's a new game free (around 4.30PM our time).

That will start you on some games you'll likely not have played before. If you want to you can sign up for Xbox Game Pass - there are numerous posts on how to get a 3 year subscription for not much money) and this will give you access to Gears of War, HALO, games such as Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Grim Fandago have just been added. They've done a deal with EA to get there games on there later this month as well.

That should give you thousands of hours of gameplay.
