or anyone got better combo's for the same budget

I am going from a opty 170 @ 2.4 each core with 2 gig corsair ram and a8n preminum board

Will be keeping using my targan 480w psu and x1950xt card with this set up. ( plan to upgrade card after 8800gt's get released and see what the benchies are like :D

anyone see any problems with imcompatability etc.

get the giel 800 mhz ram, and a gigabye p35c-ds3r

and if you're oc'ing, and don't need to stock cooler then get the oem version of that cpu.

There isn't really too much better that you can get with the money, the Ram is about as cheap as PC6400 gets usually. I might change the motherboard to the one that yantorsen suggests but that is partly personal preference since Gigabytes have been clocking well for a while however it wouldn't save you any money.

No incompatability issues and I'm not too sure about the speeds you could expect on the stock cooler, at a probably slightly conservative guess maybe 2.8ghz should be achievable with a decently ventilated case but really you'll just have to try it and see. :)

the giel ram is cheaper and has better timings.

The Geil isn't cheaper any more, it was only for the weekend, now it is back up to £49.34 compared with the £44.64 of the OCZ, the Geil may have marginally better timings but the OCZ has lower voltage requirements. Essentially they are much of a muchness but the OCZ is cheaper and that was one of the requirements unless I've misunderstood the original post. :)

Also does 4 x 1 gig memory effect overclocking at all compared with just running 2 x 1gig sticks ?

Not in the sense that it used to with A64s where you'd have to run at 2T rather than 1T but you are of course then relying on more components to overclock than you would be otherwise. However all that Ram is guaranteed to run at PC6400 speeds which could be good for 3.6ghz (9x400mhz) providing your CPU and cooling etc were up to it.

K have updated my basket to yet another  possibilty

Basicly what i am after is the best mobo / ram combo for the best buck :D

also is it true with the geil u need to set up the settings manually in bios to get it to boot ?
