Hi guys,

I need a good and quick intro into Oracle. Basically a functional overview and not a down to the ground heres how todo everything.

Any pointers to books or links to get me on the way?

Bit of background. Going into a meeting with a product that is oracle based. Im going to have to know to a certain degree Oracle termanology (i.e. a partition table) and what they do.

I thought a dummies book would have been good, however it seems there isn't one for Oracle 10g, which appears to be the latest version.

Thanks for any help,
TM

Intro to what, programming (i.e. Oracle SQL and PL/SQL) or more DBA oriented stuff?

DBA Oriented Stuff. Im not really interested in programming. Im coming from a SQL Server background, so, I just need a grounding in how to manage an Oracle server.

Thanks

Thats not a quick thing tbh and not doable via quick reading imo. How long have you got?

About 3 weeks. I just need a decent resource to flick through. I will not be maintaining these systems, but I need to be able to communicate with the people that do.

Thanks for your help,

If you've got 3 weeks then I would suggest something like this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oracle-Data...f=pd_ka_1/202-5168493-8824605?ie=UTF8&s=books

It may seem like a lot but Oracle is a completely different beast to SQL Server and if you want to be any use (even just communicating with them effectively) you'll need to do a fair bit of studying.

Oracle DBAs don't command good salaries for no reason.

Thanks Haircut, a good reference is what I was after. Purchased.
