Dear experts,

In the market for a new 'TV', HD only is fine (I don't need 4k) and about 50' would be great.

I would luv the best panel I can get ('A' grade - not 'B' or 'C' as in many cheaper TV's), LED would be fine, though OLED would be super, BUT I hate so called 'smart' features.

Are there any good LED / OLED panels out there without smart features? Good colour and contrast are important for me.

I would be happy to have no tuner to be honest, just hook up a cable box and my HTPC.

thanks Martin

Not really an odd request,

I didn't title the query 'TV', I titled it 'panel'. From Peoples knowledge, are there any approx 50 inch panels which I should look at? A panel being distinct from a TV.

Sorry if that wasn't clear.

As an example, try searching;

NEC E505 50-Inch Screen

This is a Display Panel, but I have no idea which are any good.

thanks

Martin

The odd bit was the 'no smart features' comment. Which makes little sense when you're under no obligation to use the features...

You stated "In the market for a new TV"

Most TV's even with smart features will give you a far better picture than some commercial monitor/panel

Back in 2003 I bought a Panasonic PWD6 480p panel because at the time is was the cheapest way to get a plasma screen.

Now I honestly wouldn't bother unless you specifically need a VGA input - But why would you?

I searched for the NEC panel you mentioned and for that money you can pretty much buy a 55KS7000 Samsung with super low input lag and great colour and contrast as per your demands.

Hmmm I don't find it so odd. Ultimately if he isn't going to use the features, why would he want to pay for them if he doesn't have to.

When looking for a TV manufacturers often do the same panel but with and without smart features, no?

If you were talking a couple of years ago maybe, when it was a new thing and commanded a premium but these days it's just included in virtually anything worth having anyway.

I don't think smart and non smart versions of identical TVs are really very prevalent anymore

I know what the op means. I'd love to be able to have just a screen with a single input, no rubbish speakers, pointless features, or other rubbish, just the best possible picture quality.

Point is commercial panels are not really designed for picture quality, but rather being on 24/7 or brightness, etc.

Just get a decent TV and don't use the smart features, simple really. I used mine the day I got it because new toy, but never used them since. Doesn't do any harm!
