Well I am about to purchase this spec machine, I want to get the best so it will be futureproof because it is at our holiday house and I don't always want to upgrade etc.
Games/E-mail/Office/Videos etc.

Thanks. :D

Your really wasting that much on RAM ? I hope your cooling with liquid nitrogen or something to overclock the processor to similar FSB.

buy this itl run at the same FSB as the processor. Buy 4gig if you want better future proofing, but that would require the 64 bit vista version.

Motherboard may be a bit overkill but depends on your needs.

The rest seems fine, so am i right in saying the RAM was just selected to provoke a reaction ?

Change the Motherboard since the one you picked only supports DDR3 Memory which at this point in time is a waste of money:

And get this Memory:

4gig of it, since you can afford it.

Also change Vista 32bit to the 64bit version.

Also if you are going to be overclocking think about getting a aftermart CPU Cooler, something like this will do the job just fine:

Last thine forget about the 8800GTX OC2, its a waste of money if you ask me. Just get the standard version and clock it to OC2 speeds. :)

Also if you are changing it to the suggested RAM from DavidB, you have to change your mobo since that one you have only support DDR3.. I would suggest the Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R since it support both DDR2 and DDR3 for any future upgrades when the DDR3 price it coming down a bit..

Cheers
Tom

Edit: Beaten by stickroad :(

Do I have to get 64 bit? I don't really want it because I would like to use 32-bit apps aswell, most apps are 32bit I use.
That RAM you gave me the link is 2gb? lol

Stickroad, the mobo is ddr2? I would like ddr3 :D
Thanks

Have you got XP at home?

Whats your maximum budget by the way?

DDR3 is a waste, way to expensive and it dosent really offer much over DDR2 at this point, certainly not worth the price tag.

Maximum budget is I don't know :/ Depends on the quality, if it will be good then 3k
Yeah everyone has xp

I want to get DDR3 because it looks fast :/ What do you say?
I don't mind having DDR2 motherboard support DDR3 too and getting ddr2 memory.

I am also struggling about SLI because most of these P35 only support crossfire, why not sli????

Right hows this:

Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Midnight Grey
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit Edition DVD - OEM - 1Pk
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)
Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit X2
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 5000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache X2
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music 7.1 Soundcard - OEM
Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe ReWriter
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Akasa Eclipse 62 Aluminium Case - No PSU

Total : £1,764.63

Right, if your spending that amount of money you just have to get a 24inch screen :p . The Dell is amazing, superb quality and looks very nice.

I have put Vista Home Premuium in their for you since i have also put 4GB of memory in the spec. So you will have to use a 64bit O/S to ultilize all of 4GB of RAM. You may not want to go over to Vista stright away but since you have 2, 500GB Hard Drives i would higly recomend Dual Booting XP and Vista.
This way you can experince Vista fully but if you do start to have problems you will still have XP.

The Quad Core you should be able to overclock it to 3 - 3.2GHZ without to many problems and with reasonable temps.

The Abit motherboard is one of the new P35 Chipsets, very reliable, rock solid, great overclocking boards. They also support Intels upcoming 45nm processors. Fantastic boards all around.

Unless you game on a 30inch screen, SLI is a waste of money, not enough games take advantage of a SLI configuration. The ones that do (which is very few) dosent justify the cost of buying that second card.

The Memory 4GB as i said earlier. Overclocking potenial of the Crucial Ballistix is brilliant. Will hit 1000MHZ+ pretty easily. DDR3 is just not worth it at the moment.

The GTX will be fantastic at that res.

2 Western Digital Hard Drives. Very fast and quite.

The Samsung DVD Writer, very nice drive. SATA connection so you can get rid of them ugle IDE cables.

Since this is for gaming i would higly recomend a Sound Card. The diffrence it makes as opposed to onboard sound is quite a bit. Well worth getting.

The Corsair PSU is one of the best PSUs around.

Now the Akasa case, the build quality is of a very high standard and the cooling is very very good as well.

Sorry for compltely redoing your spec, but just thought you could do slightly better with your money. :)

i don't understand how the crucial ballistix is 4gb? it sais [2x1gb] ? :s
i really dont think i need 4gb anyway, unless it supported in 32bit vista premium. i dont want 64 bit -- too many problems.

thanks
btw i dont have 2x500gb hd...

i think the antec 900 is better i have it and it comes with all the fans which is great too, and it has very good temps.
what about cpu cooling? i like zalman heard a lot of good stuff.

cheers

Yes the Crucial Memory is 2GB but just buy 2 packs.

Like i said, you can dual boot XP and Vista, this way you can experiance Vista fully but if you do come across problems you can still use XP perfectly well. :)

Why do people with such low intelligence have the money to buy such things :-(

No Vista 32bit does not supprt 4GB of Memory.

None of the P35 chipsets support SLI. Like i said unless you game on a 30inch screen, its just not worth going down the root of a SLI configuration. :)
